The Manitoba Moose will look for their first win of the season and stop the Toronto Marlies from earning the two-game sweep in their opening weekend rematch on Saturday afternoon. Last season while in St. John's the club had a 14-18-4-2 record on the road and had a 3-1-0-0 record against the Marlies including a 1-1-0-0 record in Toronto.

Back-to-Back

The Moose franchise had a record of 14-11-6-2 on the tail end of back-to-back games while in St. John’s last season. In their first trip to Toronto last season they defeated the Marlies 3-2 in the second game of the back-to-back series.

Shooting Range

The Moose were outshot by the Marlies 34-24 on Friday night. Toronto has outshot the Moose franchise in each of their last eight meetings with an average of nearly seven shots per game. The last time the Moose franchise outshot the Marlies was on Oct. 12, 2013, a game won by Toronto 6-3. Despite being outshot the Moose have a .500 record against the Marlies in those eight contests.

Big return to the AHL

In the first game of the season, defenceman Jay Harrison scored two goals in his debut for the Moose. The veteran defenceman has played 372 NHL games over the last ten seasons. Friday’s season opener was his first game in the AHL since April 24, 2010 while a member of the Albany River Rats in the playoffs against the Hershey Bears. It was his first two goal game of his AHL career and last had a multi-point game in the league on March 3, 2010 when he had two assists. He was one of four players to have multi-goal performances on opening night of the AHL’s 80th season. Friday was Harrison’s 400th career game in the AHL.

Point Machine

Defenceman Brenden Kichton spent a large chunk of training camp on the sidelines due to injury and didn’t play for the Moose in the pre-season. He made a big impact in his first game of the season recording a goal and an assist in game one against the Marlies. Kichton has fourteen multi-point games in his AHL career including three last season. Twice he has had three point games which he accomplished in back-to-back games on Jan. 26 and 31, 2014 with St. John’s.
