The Manitoba Moose (1-0-0-1) open up the home portion of their schedule this evening as they host the Bakersfield Condors (0-0-0-0) at 7 p.m. inside the MTS Centre.

Manitoba’s season began on Oct. 14 with a two game set in Des Moines, IA against the Iowa Wild. The Moose picked up their first win of the season on Friday night with a 3-1 victory. The season opening win was one to celebrate for a couple Moose rookies as Jack Roslovic and Nelson Nogier both tallied their first career goal as professionals. The next night was a different story for the Moose as Iowa came away with a 3-2 shootout win.

While the team managed to leave the hawkeye state with three of a possible four points, one of Manitoba’s homegrown players left with three points to his name. Winnipeg product Quinton Howden scored three goals over the weekend including both goals on Saturday night. Last season Howden suited up for the NHL’s Florida Panthers where he managed five goals and six assists in 58 games.

The team’s goaltenders were a solid tandem over the weekend as both Eric Comire and Ondrej Pavelec saw action. The two combined for a 0.955 SV% while only three goals allowed in two games. Both netminders were solid in the opening frame in the first two games as they didn’t allow a first period goal.

Last season was the first time the Moose and Condors matched up, with Bakersfield entering the league. Manitoba posted a 1-3-0-0 record against the Condors with their only win coming on Nov. 22 at the MTS Centre. During their four games head-to-head last season both Scott Kosmachuk (3G, 1A) and Nic Petan (4A) came away with four points.

After tonight's home opener, the two teams will meet again on Thursday night for game two of the series.
