Moose year end awards

The Manitoba Moose hockey club presented their year-end award winners for the 2015-16 season prior to the final regular season home game on Sunday, Apr. 10.

The first award presented was the Independent Jewellers Three Stars Award which went to goaltender Eric Comrie. The winner of the award is determined by the number of times a player is selected as one of the three stars at each home game.

Comrie established himself as one of the best young goaltenders in the game. He is currently in the top five in saves in all of the AHL and represented the Manitoba Moose at the AHL All-Star Classic in February.

Rockford Icehogs vs Manitoba MooseJosh Morrissey was named the Dave’s Quick Print – Julian Klymkiw Community Service Award winner. Morrissey spent countless hours giving back to the community through his tireless efforts to make a difference, particularly in the lives of local youth.

Morrissey purchased tickets which were donated to kids at every home game and would meet with them post-game to discuss the importance of education, teamwork, respect and physical fitness.

Rockford Icehogs vs Manitoba MooseThe Recycle Everywhere Rookie of the Year Award went to forward Chase De Leo.

De Leo has been one of the team's most consistent players this season and leads all Moose rookies in scoring. He is among the top rookie scorers in all of the AHL.

The native of La Mirada, CA currently leads the Moose with 19 goals.

 

Rockford Icehogs vs Manitoba MooseJulian Melchiori was named the Intact Insurance Best Defenceman. Melchiori combined strong defensive play with tremendous leadership to a young Moose group.

His hard work paid off as he finished the 2015-16 campaign as a member of the Winnipeg Jets.

 

Rockford Icehogs vs Manitoba MooseThe final award was the FloForm Countertops Most Valuable Player Award which was presented to goaltender Connor Hellebuyck.

The native of Commerce, MI has been among the top goaltenders in all of the AHL this season while setting career highs in goals against average and save percentage. He was originally named to the AHL All-Star Classic but did not attend as he split the season between the Moose and the Winnipeg Jets.

Rockford Icehogs vs Manitoba MooseThe final award determined was the Ultimate Software Top Scorer Award which had to wait for the final regular season game. After a tight battle all season long the honours for the award went to defenceman Brenden Kichton.

Kichton won the award by recording 41 points this season from 11 goals and 30 assists in 68 games for the Moose.
