PREVIEW: Taking on Texas

By: Manitoba Moose Staff | Published: January 19th 2018

The Manitoba Moose (26-8-3-2) are back on the ice at Bell MTS Place, where they’ll take on the Texas Stars (20-15-4-2) tonight. Texas is fighting to keep pace in the Pacific Division, and despite a 2-4-3-1 record in their last 10 they sit just behind San Diego and fourth place in terms of point percentage. Meanwhile, the Moose continue to hold on to first place overall. The teams split their four meetings last season and averaged 6.5 goals per game, meaning tonight’s matchup should be high-scoring. MOOSE MOVEMENT
The Winnipeg Jets recalled forward Jack Roslovic and goaltender Michael Hutchinson this morning. Both players were reassigned to the Moose Sunday, Jan. 14th, with Roslovic playing that day against Iowa. Both skaters were selected to represent the Moose at the AHL All-Star Classic that takes place in Utica at the end of the month.

POOLMAN PRODUCING
Defenceman Tucker Poolman has been a regular on the scoresheet since his return to the Moose.   In his first stint, Poolman picked up his first AHL assist in his seventh game with the Moose, before heading back to the NHL.  This go-round Poolman has five helpers in five games since Jan. 8 and three assists in his last two games.  The East Grand Forks, MN native is in his first season of professional hockey, having played 11 games with the Moose and 13 games with the Winnipeg Jets, where he was one goal.

UNCHARTED TERRITORY
Buddy Robinson is into brand new territory in terms of his offensive production.  The Lake Superior State University alum has 18 goals and 35 points on the season, both career highs.  It only took Robinson 39 games to reach both marks after needing 66 and 75 games respectively to set his previous highs.  Robinson leads the Moose in goals and is tied for fifth in the AHL, one back of the leaders.

STREAKIN'
Brendan Lemieux comes into tonight's action with the longest active assist streak in the AHL.  Lemieux has helpers in five straight AHL games played.  His streak matches Sami Niku for the longest assist streak on the team this season.  Overall, Lemieux is riding a six-game run with six points (1G, 5A) during that span.  Nic Petan owns the longest point streak with the Moose this season, a 10-game run from Dec. 15-Jan. 8.

STOYKEWYCH SETTING NEW PACE
Peter Stoykewych set a new career high in goals on Sunday and tied his career high in points.  Stoykewych picked up a pair of points to get to 20 on the season, matching his 72-game output from 2016-17.  The Winnipeg, MB native also scored his sixth goal of the season to set a new high.  His six goals are second among Moose defenders.
