Game Story
The Manitoba Moose (25-36-4-5) closed out their California road swing tonight in San Jose with their fourth and final matchup against the Barracuda (41-14-2-5) this season. Manitoba netminder Jamie Phillips had to be sharp in the early stages of the first as he faced a flurry of shots from the Barracuda attack. After the Moose impressively shut down the league’s top home ice powerplay for nearly four consecutive minutes, San Jose broke the tie. A rebound hopped off an outstretched Phillips and went right to Buddy Robinson who netted his 14th of the season. The Barracuda added one more to their total with six seconds left on the clock when Ryan Carpenter jammed the puck between Phillips and the post to double San Jose’s lead through 20 minutes.

The Moose started the middle frame by getting their first of the night on the powerplay when Kevin Czuczman’s point shot was re-directed past Clarke Saunders at 3:19 in the second. Patrice Cormier and Jack Roslovic picked up the assists. San Jose would extend their lead once more on a powerplay of their own when Joakim Ryan sent a quick wrister from the high slot past Phillips for his 10th of the season. The Moose continued to have success on the man advantage when Scott Kosmachuk’s point blast went off a Barracuda defender and right to Dan DeSalvo who made no mistake for his 16th of the season at 14:00 – bringing Manitoba back within one.

San Jose regained their two-goal lead at 3:27 of the final frame when Tim Heed’s centering pass off a rush deflected off Zack Stortini to put San Jose on top, 4-2. But the Moose would come right back 50 seconds later with their third powerplay goal of the night as Czuczman put a point shot off Saunders’ pad and the rebound went right to Kyle Connor who slid the puck into the wide open goal for his team leading 23rd of the season. Jack Roslovic snagged his second point of the night with an assist. With the Moose pushing to tie late in the frame, the Barracuda swarmed the Manitoba goal and a loose puck jumped out to a wide open Rourke Chartier who sent his shot into the back of the net to give the home side a 5-3 lead. San Jose would add an empty netter as the Barracuda picked up a 6-3 victory.
