Game Story
The Manitoba Moose (10-8-1-1) hosted the Texas Stars (11-7-1-1) on Star Wars Day at the MTS Centre. The visiting Stars opened the scoring on the first powerplay of the night. Travis Morin opened up Matt Mangene with a cross-ice feed and Mangene put a perfect shot just under the bar to give the Stars a 1-0 lead. The Moose powerplay had two opportunities to work in the frame, but the home side couldn’t muster a tying marker. Eric Comrie made 12 saves in the period as Texas took a 1-0 lead to the break.
The Stars got out of the gate quickly in the second, striking for three goals in the opening four minutes. Brandon DeFazio started out the run eleven seconds into the period. Denis Gurianov made it a pair in the opening minute just 28 seconds later to make it 3-0. At the 4:25 mark, Austin Fyten found the back of the net to extend the Texas advantage to 4-0. The Stars added to their lead with a powerplay goal on a five-minute major, Mike McMurtry getting the goal at 10:47 for a 5-0 lead after forty.
Texas continued the barrage when Jason Dickinson found a loose puck in the crease and pushed it over the line during a four-on-four segment. The Moose broke up Maxime Lagace’s shutout bid with 57 seconds remaining in the game. The puck ricocheted to Julian Melchiori who fired home the lone Manitoba goal on the evening, leaving the score 6-1 Texas after sixty.

The foundation of that team is teamwork and we had too many individual mistakes that cost us the game. We have to regroup, we have less than 24 hours now to regroup, and get ready for tomorrow.”
Forward Chase De Leo – “What you learn about pro hockey is even if you win three in a row, you can’t get too high, can’t get too comfortable because that’s when things start slipping away. I think the good thing is we play tomorrow at two o’clock against the same team. Just have to bounce back, think about it shortly here, and forget about it and move on for tomorrow.”
