Game Story
The Manitoba Moose (19-25-3-3) entered the final series of their six-game road trip, taking on the Toronto Marlies (25-22-3-1) at Ricoh Coliseum on Friday night. The Toronto powerplay looked sharp in the first period, striking twice for the Marlies. The first tally came 5:57 into the game when Dmytro Timashov’s centering pass went in off a defender’s skate. The next goal came on a late advantage as Timashov’s pass made it through the congested slot over to Trevor Moore at the far side of the net for the 2-0 goal. The Moose went to a powerplay of their own after the second Toronto marker, but couldn’t get on the board, trailing 2-0 into the second.
Manitoba went onto the offensive early, peppering Antoine Bibeau in the Toronto net. The Moose broke through on their ninth shot of the period. Quinton Howden snagged the puck in the slot and blistered a wrist shot just inside the post. The puck came back out of the net so quickly the goal required a brief review by the officials. Despite outshooting Toronto 17-9 in the period the Moose saw their deficit grow as Moore made it 3-1 at 11:47, popping in a rebound. Byron Froese gave the Marlies a 4-1 advantage, accepting a feed in the slot and ripping the puck to the back of the net with under four left in the frame.
The Marlies pressed their advantage 1:11 into the third as Seth Griffith found open ice to the side of the net and potted his fourth of the season from the back door. Manitoba’s powerplay got on the board approaching the mid-point of the period. Chase De Leo took advantage of a screen, putting a perfect shot past Bibeau. That was as close as the Moose would come with the Marlies taking the 5-2 win.
