Game Story
The Manitoba Moose (20-27-3-4) welcomed the San Antonio Rampage (21-28-4-1) to MTS Centre to open a weekend back-to-back.  The Rampage jumped out to a 1-0 lead 4:07 into the game when A.J. Greer snapped a shot past a screened Eric Comrie to open the scoring.  The Moose pulled even 9:41 into the contest.  Kyle Connor put together a brilliant solo-effort before sending the puck to a wide open Peter Stoykewych.  The Moose defender fired wide, but the rebound came off the back-wall to Connor who tucked the puck into the goal.  The Rampage restored their lead with a late powerplay off the stick of Sergei Boikov to take a 2-1 lead to the break.

The Moose got off to a blistering start in the second as Connor pounced on a Dan DeSalvo rebound for his second of the night, this one on the powerplay, at 3:26.  Just over a minute later, Patrice Cormier won a faceoff back to JC Lipon who retreated to the blue-line before throwing the puck on net and finding twine for a 3-2 Moose lead.  The scoring calmed down the rest of the way with the Moose carrying a 3-2 lead into the third period.

Manitoba limited San Antonio’s opportunities to get back even in the third, allowing just seven shots toward Eric Comrie.  The closest the Rampage came to tying the game was on a goal line scramble after a redirect in front of the Manitoba goaltender.  Comrie and the Moose managed to keep the puck from going over the line to maintain the lead.  Into the late stages of the contest, the Rampage emptied their net to try for a tying goal.  That set the stage for Kyle Connor to hit the yawning cage from the neutral zone for his first professional hat-trick and seal the game 4-2 for the Moose.

Quick Hits

  • Game attendance was announced at 6,705.

Quotable
Head Coach Pascal Vincent – “(Eric Comrie) is the reason why we were in the game after the first period. We couldn’t get the puck out.  We were losing races.  We were losing battles.  We didn’t block enough shots. Obviously their power-play generated a lot of shots too. That’s something we talked about after the first period, and after the game. We need to, as a group, find a way to start on time. We’ve been pretty good all year, but tonight, lesson learned.”

Forward Kyle Connor – “I was playing really good hockey as of late. Even the last game against Rockford, I had a ton of chances, but the bounces weren’t there. Tonight was a little different.”
