Game Story
The Manitoba Moose (18-23-3-2) opened a six-game road trip at the Van Andel Arena tonight as they visited the Grand Rapids Griffins (30-13-1-2). Manitoba got the scoring started early in the game at 3:36 when Brandon Tanev skated a puck down the left side and found Scott Kosmachuk in the high slot who fired a wrister past Jimmy Howard to give Manitoba a 1-0 lead. Both teams had a powerplay but the penalty kill units were able to shut to door. Moose netminder Eric Comrie made 10 saves in the opening frame.

Grand Rapids pulled even with the Moose as the Griffins’ number one ranked powerplay went to work. Martin Frk got the home side on the board 2:26 into the middle frame when his quick shot found it’s way past Comrie. Matt Lorito and Tomas Nosek drew the assists. The Griffins took the lead later on in the period at 15:44 when former Winnipeg Jets forward, Eric Tangradi spun around in the high slot and found twine for his sixth of the season. Scott Kosmachuk led Manitoba with three shots through 40 minutes of play.

Just like they did in the second, Grand Rapids struck on the man advantage to start the third. Martin Frk potted his second of the game wiring home a one-timer from the top of the left circle to give the Griffins a 3-1 lead. Grand Rapids scored again at 11:13 in the third when youngster Tyler Bertuzzi got a shot through an outstretched Comrie. Manitoba pushed late in the game to get on the score sheet but the first place Griffins shut down Manitoba’s offense in the dying minutes, hanging on to pick up a 4-1 win.
