Game Story

The Manitoba Moose (37-17-4-4) and Texas Stars (32-22-6-3) got off to a blistering start with a five-goal first period.  Texas opened the scoring 2:50 into the game on a back door tap in from Curtis McKenzie on the power play.  The Moose defence responded with the next three goals of the game.  Jan Kostalek got the Moose even at 7:48 when he whipped the puck from the line and found the back of the net.  Kirill Gotovets gave Manitoba the lead 30 seconds later when he pounced on a loose puck for his first of the season.  The Moose made it a two-goal game off the stick of Peter Stoykewych, who accepted a pass from JC Lipon in the circle before firing the puck home at 12:39.  The Stars got back within one on McKenzie's second power play tally at 16:21 to send the game to the break with the Moose in front 3-2.

Manitoba locked things down in the second, not allowing a shot until the 12:48 mark of the period.  Meanwhile, the Moose racked up 13 shots in the frame.  One of those found the twine as JC Lipon knocked in a loose puck behind Landon Bow on the power play to restore the two-goal edge with 7:47 to go in the period.  The lone goal of the frame sent Manitoba to the third with a 4-2 advantage.

The Moose started out the period by adding to their lead.  Brendan Lemieux sent Patrice Cormier in behind the defence, and the captain pulled the puck around Bow for his 20th of the season 3:48.  Another milestone was checked off minutes later when Michael Spacek spied a wide open Brett Welychka who snapped home his first career AHL goal in just his second game to give the Moose a 6-2 lead 7:08 into the period.  Texas got one back off the stick of Samuel Laberge late in the frame, but that would be all, as the Moose cruised to a 6-3 victory.
