Game Story

The Manitoba Moose (38-19-4-4) finished their seven-game road trip in San Antonio where they took on the Rampage (31-25-10-0) at AT&T Center. The teams traded power play opportunities in the first 10 minutes, but neither could break the deadlock. A big hit by Patrice Cormier on A.J. Greer seemed to jump start the physical play. The Rampage opened the scoring with 2:05 left in the period, following Manitoba's second power play. Samuel Blais' shot was tipped past Jamie Phillips by Zach Sanford with just over two minutes left in the frame. The Moose outshot San Antonio 11-5 through 20 minutes, but couldn't solve Joe Cannata

The Moose were all over San Antonio to start the second period. Some pretty passing from Nic Petan led to multiple good looks, but Manitoba couldn't get the puck through the Rampage defencemen. Petan used that pressure to draw the third Moose power play, but 45 seconds later, Manitoba took the first of two consecutive penalties. The Rampage went up 2-0 on the subsequent man advantage when Andrew Agozzino poked home a puck loose in the crease at 9:10. Manitoba pushed back and drew another penalty, but Alex Belzile struck shorthanded to put San Antonio ahead 3-0 at 12:08. Next it was the Rampage's turn on the power play, but it didn't go well for them either. Both Cormier and Buddy Robinson had high-quality chances shorthanded. Just after that man advantage ended Petan set up Michael Spacek in front, where the rookie found his 14th goal of the season which brought Manitoba to within two after the second.

The Moose came out strong in the third and on a seemingly harmless one-man rush, Brody Sutter made a spin move, wrapped around the net and fed Buddy Robinson in the slot. Robinson was all alone and brought the Moose to within one, just 3:38 into the period. Things started to get chippy from that point on with the teams agains trading power plays. Regardless of how many players were on the ice, the Moose were in control of the third, outshooting San Antonio 14-4 in the frame. With the goalie pulled, Petan saw a wide open net disappear when Cannata flew across the crease to rob Manitoba of the tying goal. A few seconds later, Nicolas Meloche swung at a loose puck and wound up bouncing it into Manitoba's open net. That would end it as the Rampage secured the 4-2 win.
