Game Story

The Manitoba Moose (8-7-0-0) visited the Texas Stars (6-6-1-1) on Wednesday night. Manitoba was first to crack the scoresheet when Mason Appleton's shot from the half-boards somehow ended up behind Landon Bow. Seth Griffith found the puck scoring his fifth of the season, a little more than six minutes in. Just over three minutes later, on the second Stars power play of the game, Roope Hintz tipped a Justin Dowling pass by Eric Comrie tying the game at one.

Scoring picked up in the second period, starting with Joel L'Esperance picking a corner on Comrie giving Texas their first lead at 2:47. Under seven minutes later, Kristian Vesalainen snuck a puck through a Stars defender to an open Logan Shaw in the slot, Shaw made no mistake notching his first with the Moose. The tie didn't last long as just 17 seconds later a James Phelan snap shot put Texas back up, 3-2. Manitoba would respond again with Shaw winning a faceoff directly to Vesalainen who fired a rocket to the top corner, tying the game at three with a little less than eight minutes to go in the period. That line would strike again just over four minutes later with JC Lipon behind the net, spotting an open Shaw for the one-timer, his second of the game, and a 4-3 lead.

Skyler McKenzie put the Moose further in front by finishing a pretty passing play from Michael Spacek and Emile Poirier six minutes into the final frame. Texas decided to pull their goaltender with more than five minutes remaining and after Shaw missed an open net, Colton Hargrove scored off the rush heading the other way. In the final two minutes, with the Stars net once again empty, a long-distance shot from Shaw hit the post which denied him the hat trick. Despite a late flurry around the Moose net, Comrie stood tall and Manitoba sealed the 5-4 victory.
