Game Story
The Manitoba Moose (10-7-1-1) finished off their three-game road trip on Wednesday evening when they visited the Rockford IceHogs (7-10-1-2). The home side was the first to strike as Martin Lundberg deflected a Robin Norell shot past Moose goalie Eric Comrie at 10:22. Then with just over two minutes remaining in the frame, Lundberg found the net again giving his team a 2-0 advantage. Comrie made 16 saves in the opening period.

After starting the second frame on the penalty kill, the Moose let loose for three straight goals in the middle stanza. Kevin Czuczman got things started on the powerplay as he wired a point shot through traffic at 8:46. Then 24 seconds later, Ryan Olsen was right on the doorstep to tie things up at two a piece with Brenden Kichton drawing the lone assist. Manitoba took the lead at 13:38 when Peter Stoykewych scored his second of the year with a bullet from the blue line.

Rockford managed to tie things up 3:54 into the third period as Tanner Kero scored an unassisted powerplay goal. Manitoba would regain the lead as Jack Roslovic skated a loose puck into the high slot and fired a laser of a shot past IceHogs goalie Mac Carruth at 9:29. After a Julian Melchiori boarding penalty the IceHogs took the advantage as Viktor Svedberg slid a quick shot past Comrie to tie the game at four.

Regulation and overtime solved nothing, so a shootout was needed. The division rivals went back and forth with neither team able to score through six rounds. On their seventh attempt, Manitoba’s Brendan Lemieux found twine – putting Rockford in a must score situation. Like he had all night, Comrie shut the door on Pierre-Cedric Labrie giving the Moose a 5-4 shootout victory.
