The Manitoba Moose are proud to provide a free broadcast of their game against the Chicago Wolves on March 5, 2023 in Plains Cree. The broadcast is believed to be the first-ever American Hockey League game presented in Plains Cree. The broadcast is part of the team’s Follow Your Dreams Day initiative, presented by Scotiabank, in support of WASAC.
Follow Your Dreams Day is a celebration of Indigenous culture that also welcomes youth from Indigenous communities to attend the games and participate in ancillary events. The Follow Your Dreams initiative started with the original Moose franchise in 2000. The Moose will wear their 2023 Follow Your Dreams jerseys throughout the match.
The special Plains Cree broadcast will be led by ‘Hockey Night in Canada in Cree’ play-by-play announcer Clarence Iron. Hailing from Pinehouse, Sask., Iron works at CFNK 89.9 FM as a program host in his native Plains Cree language. With his experience calling Indigenous hockey tournaments as well as local games, Iron is recognized within the Indigenous hockey community as one of the “Cree Voices of Hockey.” Clarence is fluently bilingual in English and Plains Cree.
The broadcast on March 5 will begin at 2 p.m. CT on this page.
The game will also be available in english on 680 CJOB, the Winnipeg Jets App and a special free broadcast on AHLTV.
