The Moose continued to roll offensively on Saturday night at the MTS Centre in the first ever visit by the Charlotte Checkers.

Manitoba scored a season high seven goals in a game that excited the big home crowd in attendance as they defeated the Checkers 7-2.

The Moose were led by forward Austen Brassard who had a career high three point night with two goals and an assist. Brassard has now scored four goals and two assists for six points in five games against the Checkers this season.

Forwards Ryan Olsen (1G, 1A), Patrice Cormier (1G, 1A) and John Albert (1G, 1A) also recorded multi-point games.

Thomas Raffl scored for the second consecutive game for the Moose and now has three goals in his last five games.

It was also a banner night for three Moose rookies.

Defenceman Jake Baker who was signed earlier in the day to a professional tryout agreement recorded his first point with an assist in his first career AHL game.

Fellow rookies, forward Axel Blomqvist and defenceman Aaron Harstad, also recorded assists for their first career points in the AHL.

Goaltender Eric Comrie made 31 saves and picked up his 10th win at the MTS Centre this season. He reclaimed the top spot as the AHL’s saves leader with 1,123 so far this season.

The five goal margin of victory was the highest for the Moose this season and also helped the team get to .500 at home with an 11-11-2-3 record on the season.

The Moose now have a record of 2-2-1-0 against Charlotte on the year in the season series. The two teams will play each other three more times this season, all in Winnipeg.

Both teams won’t have to wait long for the next game as they will have another quick turnaround as the rematch goes on Sunday afternoon at the MTS Centre. Puck drop is scheduled for 2 p.m.
