Comrie shines in shootout loss
By: CK Nakhwal | Published: October 10th 2015A late goal helped the Manitoba Moose to earn their first point of the AHL season despite losing their second straight game to the Toronto Marlies on Saturday afternoon at the Ricoh Coliseum.
Ryan Olsen banged in a rebound to score his first of the season with just 1:51 remaining in the third period to tie the game 2-2.
After overtime solved nothing, both teams went through four rounds of the shootout before Toronto’s Byron Froese beat Moose goaltender Eric Comrie which would end up being the winner, with the Marlies coming out on top 3-2.
J.C. Lipon had the other goal for the Moose, his first of the season on a beautiful pass from Captain John Albert.
The Moose held the Marlies to just one powerplay goal on five opportunities which was impressive as Toronto had three different 5-on-3 situations. This included a second period stretch where the Moose were consecutively on the penalty kill for 5:13 and down two men twice in that time.
Comrie was brilliant in net making 39 saves including 20 in the first period giving the Moose the opportunity to tie it late.
Byron Froese and Andrew Campbell were a thorn in the side of the Moose, as for the second straight day both players scored for the Marlies.
Next up for the Moose is their long awaited home opener which will take place on Thursday, Oct. 15 when they host the Ontario Reign at 7 p.m. CT at the MTS Centre. The two teams will play a rematch on Saturday, Oct. 17 as part of the California based team’s first ever trip to Winnipeg.
