The Manitoba Moose used a crazy second period to their advantage to claim a win on New Year’s Eve over the visiting Iowa Wild by a 4-3 score.

Manitoba showed signs in the first period of a team coming off a long 10 day layoff which led to a Dylan Labbe goal giving Iowa the early lead.

But in the second period, the Moose awoke the huge crowd of 13,774 in attendance during a goal scoring flurry that saw Manitoba pot three goals in a span of just 1:54.

First it was a beautiful goal by Josh Morrissey from the slot on the powerplay, then before his goal was fully announced to the crowd Chase De Leo tipped in a set pass by Nic Petan. The trio of goals was completed by Austen Brassard who scored his sixth of the season and third in as many games.

The Wild were able to bounce back on goals from former Moose Jordan Schroeder and Grayson Downing.

Before the end of the period it was Scott Kosmachuk scoring his fifth of the season which would go on to be the game winning goal.

Six of the seven goals in the game happened during that second period and neither team scored in the game’s final frame.

Eric Comrie made a season high 41 saves in earning his seventh victory of the season. Comrie has been particularly impressive at the MTS Centre where he now has a 6-1-1 record with a 1.97 goals against average and a .927 save percentage.

The Moose will play the rematch against the Iowa Wild on New Year’s Day at 7 p.m. Another large crowd is expected for the game so be sure to get your tickets quickly.
