Moose deliver big in win over Griffins

The Moose played an impressive team game to earn a big 2-1 home victory over one of the AHL’s hottest teams in the Grand Rapids Griffins on Tuesday night at the MTS Centre.

Chase De Leo scored the game’s opening goal off a great feed from JC Lipon while on a five-on-three powerplay to open the scoring for the Moose.

After former Winnipeg Jets forward Eric Tangradi tied the game for Grand Rapids it was Patrice Cormier who scored off a pass out front from John Albert midway through the third period that solidified the Moose victory.

Josh Morrissey was impressive mixing a physical game with his high end skill recording an assist. The rookie defenceman now has scored one goal and three assists in his last four games.

Matt Halischuk played his first game back with the Moose since being re-assigned by the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday. The veteran forward had a terrific game winning races to pucks, blocking shots and helping the Moose to the game winning goal with an assist.

The Moose also continued to have a powerplay that has delivered.

Manitoba scored on the powerplay for the second straight game and have scored at least one powerplay goal in three of their last four games. The Moose now own the AHL’s 11th best home powerplay at 19.3%.

Eric Comrie continued his spectacular play at home making 37 saves to improve his home record to an incredible 7-2-2 with a goals against average of 2.07 and a save percentage of .938 at the MTS Centre.

Comrie made 33+ saves for the fourth consecutive game and was named the game’s first star.

The Moose will continue their home stand this coming Friday, Jan. 8 when they host the Toronto Marlies at 7 p.m.
