The Manitoba Moose couldn’t hold off some tough competition from the Charlotte Checkers on Saturday night at the MTS Centre.

The Checkers, who are holding on to their playoff lives, were able to build up a 3-0 lead early into the second period on goals from Erik Karlsson, Derek Ryan and Derek Arnold.

Manitoba fought back when Ben Walker scored his first in a Moose uniform followed by a Scott Kosmachuk goal, on a terrific effort, to get the Moose back in it before the end of the second period.

The goal came in Kosmachuk’s first game back in the Moose lineup since being re-assigned by the Winnipeg Jets. He has now scored 15 goals for the Moose, which puts him second on the team. He has scored three goals in his last four games for Manitoba.

In the third period the Checkers pulled away with Erik Karlsson’s second goal of the game, followed by a goal by Sergey Tolchinsky and an empty net goal from Kyle Hagel to give Charlotte a 6-2 victory.

John Muse picked up the win in the Charlotte net making 24 saves. Eric Comrie allowed three goals on nine shots before being relieved by Connor Hellebuyck who made 15 saves the rest of the way.

The Moose wore special Autism Awareness jerseys during the game in support of St.Amant’s Autism Program. Game worn/issued jerseys from the game will be available via an online auction hosted on True North’s eBay page: truenorth_eshop starting on Sunday, March 27 at 6:00 pm and running until Sunday, April 3 at 6:00 pm.

Manitoba will face the Charlotte Checkers for the eighth and final time this season on Monday, Mar. 28 at the MTS Centre. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
