After a night where the Moose scored their most goals in a game this season, the rematch on Sunday afternoon against the Charlotte Checkers was just the opposite.

The two teams went scoreless through the first two periods of the game and it remained that way until Charlotte opened the scoring on a goal off the foot of Derek Ryan 47:29 into the contest during the third period.

The Moose did respond just over two minutes later, while on a powerplay of their own, when Austen Brassard found JC Lipon in front of the net who redirected it into the Charlotte net.

The game remained tied until Derek Ryan scored the eventual game winning goal with just under six minutes remaining during a scramble out front to give the Checkers the 2-1 win.

Lipon continued his strong play, scoring for the second consecutive game and he now has scored five goals and eight assists for 13 points in 12 games during February.

Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck made 26 saves in the loss. He has a 2.03 goals against average and a .938 save percentage in six games since returning to the Moose lineup on Feb. 12.

Manitoba now has a record of 2-3-1-0 against Charlotte this year in the season series. The two teams will play each other twice more this season, both in Winnipeg.

The Moose will next head back out on the road for a two-game trip that starts with a game on Friday, Mar. 4 against the San Antonio Rampage at 7 p.m.
