By: Daniel Fink | Published: April 11th 2025

The Manitoba Moose (23-39-3-3) begin their final weekend on home ice this season against the Iowa Wild (26-36-5-1). Puck drop at Canada Life Centre is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT. The Moose fell 3-2 to Chicago on Sunday for their fifth consecutive loss. Three of Manitoba’s past four games have been decided by one goal. The Wild saw a four-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday with a 5-0 loss to Milwaukee. Tickets for tonight's game are available at moosehockey.com/tickets.

Maintaining the Pace

Mason Shaw kept pace with Dominic Toninato for the team scoring lead as the pair both factored in on Shaw’s tally on Sunday. Shaw’s goal was his 16th of the season, placing him three back of his 2021-22 career high. The Wainwright, Alta. product is second on the Moose in goals and tied for second in assists. Shaw also ranks second on the club with 107 penalty minutes and is one of just four players in the AHL with at least 35 points and 100 penalty minutes. If Shaw is able to lead the Moose in points this season, it will be his first time pacing his team in scoring.

First on the Board

Liam Malmquist cashed in on Sunday for the first goal of his AHL and professional career. Malmquist achieved the milestone in his third game with the Moose after joining the team from the University of St. Thomas. The Edina, Minn. product scored 35 goals during his collegiate career, with 20 of those coming in 38 games during the 2024-25 campaign. Malmquist is the fifth player to score their first AHL goal with the Moose this season. Four of those players scored within their first four games with the Moose this season.

Pro Debut

Patrick Guzzo took his first steps in the professional ranks on Sunday. Guzzo joined the Moose from the University of Ohio last week. The forward left the program as the Buckeyes’ all-time games played leader with 171 contests under his belt. Guzzo recorded one shot on goal and posted an even plus/minus rating in the 3-2 Manitoba loss. The Marysville, Mich. native recorded 62 points (34G, 28A) during his NCAA career.

Welcome, Walt

Kieron Walton signed his entry-level contract with the Winnipeg Jets on Monday and joined the Moose on an amateur tryout agreement this week. Walton, 18, just finished his third season for the OHL’s Sudbury Wolves and led the team in goals (38), assists (54), and points (92) in 66 games in 2024-25. The Toronto, Ont. native added five points (1G, 4A) in four playoff games as Sudbury lost out to the Kingston Frontenacs. Walton, Winnipeg’s sixth-round pick (187th overall) in the 2024 NHL Draft, has 148 points (64G, 84A) and 61 penalty minutes in 177 career OHL games for the Wolves. He has added six points (1G, 5A) in 15 OHL playoff games.

Who's Trending?

Dominic Toninato picked up an assist on Sunday and has three helpers over his past two games. The assist marked a pair of career highs for the Moose captain. Toninato’s 18 assists on the season are a new career mark. His team co-leading 36 points are also a new high for the forward. Toninato has 144 points (73G, 71A) in 253 career AHL games.
