The Moose host the Toronto Marlies for a weekend set starting with tonight's 7 p.m. matchup at Canada Life Centre. The Moose are coming off a split in their mid-week set against Laval, dropping the second half of the back-to-back by a 4-2 score on Wednesday. Been a Long Time

Despite being Canadian AHL teams, the Moose and Marlies haven’t seen a lot of each other this season. The two clubs have clashed twice right at the beginning of the season, with the both squads claiming one victory. Toronto won the first meeting 5-1 and the Moose paid them back with a 5-0 shutout victory the next night. The two clubs battled frequently last season in the AHL’s Canadian Division. The teams split the series in Manitoba 2-2-0-0, but the Moose earned a better recored in Toronto with a mark of 3-2-0-0. That record included a late season three-game sweep that saw Manitoba outscore Toronto 14-10.

Follow the Leader

Jeff Malott has had a productive season for the Moose. The forward, who is in his sophomore AHL season, recorded his 20th goal of the season on Wednesday. Malott is up to 32 points (20G, 12A) in 51 games this season with Manitoba. He leads the squad in goal-scoring and sits one point off the team’s overall points lead. Malott is a force on the man advantage with eight power play goals, which ties him for 18th in the AHL. The Burlington, Ont. product. has tallied four points (2G, 2A) over his last five games and leads Manitoba with six game-winning goals this season.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the Weekend

Like most AHL teams, the Moose play the majority of their games on the weekend. Fridays have treated Cole Maier well this season as the forward has scored six points (3G, 3A) in 10 Friday contests. That mark leads the Moose this season. Right behind Maier are another two forwards in Jeff Malott and Austin Poganski. The former has tallied five points (2G, 3A) while the latter has also registered five points (3G, 2A) in 10 and nine games respectively. Of the four shorthanded goals the Moose have scored this season, the only tally on a Friday came off the stick of forward Nicholas Jones.

Oh What a Month

Mikey Eyssimont had a March to remember. The forward suited up in 13 games for the Moose and produced 13 points (6G, 7A) over that span. The six goals co-led the team over the month. Eyssimont also fired a team-leading 47 shots over the month and finished with a plus-five rating. The Littleton, Col. product leads the Moose with 33 points (14G, 19A) in 48 games and has set new career high benchmarks in goals, assists and points. The forward is also on milestone watch with 99 points (45G, 54A) in his AHL career split between the Ontario Reign and the Moose.

Who's Trending?

Austin Poganski recorded a goal in Wednesday’s loss against Laval. The forward now sits with 27 points (9G, 18A) in 43 games in his first season in antlers. Poganski has had a productive season and is closing in on his career high numbers set in 2019-20 with San Antonio. He recorded 30 points (10G, 20A) in 56 games for the Rampage that campaign.
