The Moose try to make it two in a row over the IceHogs in this weekend back-to-back. Manitoba claimed a 3-2 victory over its Rockford rivals in yesterday's opener. The Moose outshot the IceHogs 46-19 yesterday in a game that ended up being decided by Jeff Malott's tally with six minutes left. Tickets for today's 2 p.m. game are available at MooseHockey.com/TICKETS. Coverage of this afternoon's tilt on CJOB.com/sports, AHLTV and the Manitoba Moose App gets going at 1:45 p.m. CT.

Jeff Is Clutch

Forward Jeff Malott struck for his 23rd goal of the season in the third period of yesterday’s game. The tally eventually held up as Malott’s eighth game-winning goal of the campaign. The Burlington, Ont. product is tied for second in the league in game-winners. Malott is also tied for second on the Moose all-time list for game-winning goals in a single season. He’s tied with Scott Thomas (1998-99) and Jason Krog (2008-09) and one shy of matching the record set by Jason Jaffray during the 2006-07 campaign. Malott leads the Moose with 38 points (23G, 15A) in 57 games.

Hitting Double-Digits

Evan Polei and Nicholas Jones both recorded a goal and an assist in the Moose 3-2 win over the IceHogs yesterday. Polei’s 10th of the season was a new career high for the forward, who also tied his previous career high of 20 points in the victory. Polei, who is in his first season with the Moose, owns four multi-point games to his credit. Jones followed Polei in the third period and reached double-digits for the first time in his career. Jones is now up to 27 points (10G, 17A) in 55 games. This isn’t the first time the linemates have played on the same team. Both Polei and Jones were part of the same spring hockey program with the Northern Alberta Selects in 2008.

High Volume Shooters

Manitoba is a high volume shooting club this season. In yesterday’s contest, the Moose fired 46 shots on the IceHogs net in a 3-2 victory. Including yesterday, the Moose have fired 98 total shots on net the past three games against Milwaukee, Chicago and Rockford. That works out to an average of 32.7 shots per game, which is actually slightly lower than the full season average of 32.9 shots per game. In their six games against Rockford this season, the Moose have recorded 239 total shots on goal. That averages out to 39 shots per contest. In addition, the two clubs have split the series three game apiece with the home side winning every single game in regulation.

Welcome to the Team!

Yesterday afternoon the Winnipeg Jets announced they have agreed to terms with forward Wyatt Bongiovanni to a two-year, entry-level contract. The deal begins in 2022-23 and the forward signed an amateur tryout contract with the Moose for the rest of the season. Bongiovanni recently completed his senior season with the Quinnipiac Bobcats in the ECAC where he recorded 34 points (16G, 18A) and 45 penalty minutes in 42 games. The Birmingham, Mich. native captained the Bobcats in 2021-22 and led the team in goal scoring for the second time in the past three seasons.

Who's Trending?

Cole Maier recorded two points (2A) in yesterday afternoon’s win over Rockford. The forward is up to 32 points (15G, 17A) in 63 games on the campaign and sits fourth overall in team scoring. Maier led all skaters with seven shots yesterday afternoon. It’s the second time this season he tallied seven shots on goal and third time in his career recording at least seven.
