The Manitoba Moose (24-40-3-3) enter the final weekend of the 2024-25 season facing off against the Texas Stars (42-25-3-0). Puck drop at H-E-B Center is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT. The Moose finished their home calendar with a 3-2 overtime win against Iowa on Saturday, snapping a six-game losing skid. The Stars earned their second consecutive victory with a 3-1 win in Chicago on Sunday. MVP! MVP!

Mason Shaw was named the Floform Countertops Most Valuable Player as the team handed out its annual awards prior to Saturday’s game. It was the perfect night for Shaw to score the first overtime winner in his AHL career for the 3-2 victory. The tally was Shaw’s fourth game-winning goal of the season and 12th of his career. The winner was also the Wainwright, Alta. product’s second game-winner against his former club after playing 197 games with Iowa. Shaw leads the Moose with 37 points (17G, 20A), while ranking second on the team in goals and third in assists. He paces the club with 14 even strength goals.

Dashing Defender

Elias Salomonsson also made an impact after receiving some hardware. Salomonsson posted two assists, including setting up Mason Shaw’s game-winner after being named the Moose Best Defenceman and Rookie of the Year. The Skellefteå, Sweden product has 27 points (4G, 22A) in 51 games this season. He is tied with Dylan Coghlan for fourth on the team in points, as well as the lead among Moose defenders. Salomonsson’s minus-six rating is tied with Dylan Anhorn for the top mark among Moose defenders. The Winnipeg Jets 2022 second round pick is tied for eighth among AHL rookie defenders in points this season.

Puck-Stopper

Domenic DiVincentiis made 30 saves for his 12th win of the season on Saturday. It marked the 14th time this season DiVincentiis made at least 30 saves in a contest, and seventh time recording a win when clearing 30 saves. Overall, The Bolton, Ont. native holds a 7-6-1 record when facing 30 or more shots. DiVincentiis was named the Moose Three Stars Award winner on Saturday after earning six star nods (three first, three second) at Moose home games this season. The Winnipeg Jets seventh round pick in 2022 ranks third among rookie goalies in save percentage (.905), fourth in goals-against average (2.91) and fifth in wins (12).

Back-to-Back

Liam Malmquist scored his first professional goal in his third game with the Moose, and tallied his second the next time out. Malmquist scored in the first period of Saturday’s win, giving him goals in back-to-back games played for the first time in his professional career. The Edina, Minn. product has at least a shot on goal in all four of his appearances with the Moose, totalling six shots. He also holds a plus-two rating in his four games. Malmquist signed an amateur tryout agreement with Manitoba after posting 45 points (20G, 25A) in 38 games with the University of St. Thomas this season.

Defenceman Ashton Sautner cracked double-digits with his 10th point (2G, 8A) of the season on Saturday. It’s his fifth consecutive season (min. 30 games) recording at least 10 points. The helper came in Sautner’s 500th professional game, and 477th in the AHL. The Flin Flon, Man. native has 95 points (23G, 72A) in his AHL career.
