The Manitoba Moose (24-41-3-3) play the final game of the 2024-25 regular season against the Texas Stars (43-25-3-0) tonight. Puck drop at H-E-B Center is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT. The Moose battled back into the game after trailing 4-1 through 20 minutes last night, but fell 5-3 to the Stars. The Moose are 1-3-1-0 over the past five games. Improved Second Half

The Moose come to the end of their 72-game calendar in this evening’s matchup. Manitoba holds a 24-41-3-3 record through 71 contests. The Moose improved into the second half of the season posting a 13-18-2-2 record after the midway point of the season. Manitoba picked up their offensive output in the second-half, scoring 90 goals over the previous 35 games. The Moose saw its special teams numbers rise as well with a 18.8 percent success rate on the power play, while killing off 80.8 percent of opponents chances on the man-advantage. Dominic Toninato (12G, 13A) and Dylan Coghlan (10G, 15A) led the Moose with 25 points each in the back-half of the campaign.

Ironman

Mason Shaw has appeared in all 71 games for the Moose so far this season. Should Shaw play in tonight’s contest he will be the seventh Moose player to appear in every game of the season since 2015. He will be the fifth to play every game in a season with at least 72 games.It’s the first time the Wainwright, Alta. product suited up more than 70 games since he played all 76 during the 2018-19 campaign with Iowa. Shaw paces the team with 37 points (17G, 20A) and 175 shots.

Terrific Against Texas

Ben King scored for the fifth time in six games against the Stars last night. King has points in five of his six outings against Texas this season. He leads the Moose with five goals and seven points versus the Stars. King’s two helpers are also tied for the team lead. The Vernon, B.C. product has more points against Texas than any other team this season. He also leads the Moose in points against Abbotsford. Overall, King features 25 points (12G, 13A) in 63 games this season. That means 28 percent of his points this season have come against Texas in 9.5 percent of his games.

Shorthanded Specialist

Axel Jonsson-Fjällby scored his third shorthanded goal of the season last night. The shorthanded marker represents a new career-high for Jonsson-Fjällby who previously posted two shorties during the 2020-21 campaign with Hershey. The Stockholm, Sweden product leads the Moose in shorthanded goals this season and is tied for seventh in the AHL. Jonsson-Fjällby heads into the final game of the season with 27 points (12G, 15A) in 64 games.

Kieron Walton picked up the primary assist on Ben King’s second period goal last night for his first professional point. Walton, 18, was selected in the sixth round (187th overall) of the 2024 NHL Draft by the Winnipeg Jets. The 6’6 forward enjoyed a breakout season with the OHL’s Sudbury Wolves, racking up 92 points (38G, 54A) in 66 games.
