The Manitoba Moose (23-37-2-3) clash in a rematch with the Laval Rocket (43-17-3-1) this evening. Puck drop at Canada Life Centre is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT. The Moose returned home to face a 3-2 loss to Laval in the opener of their final homestand of the regular season. Manitoba has dropped two in a row. The win was Laval’s seventh in the past 10 games.

Double Toni-Time
Dominic Toninato made it goals in two straight games with a pair of tallies in last night’s game. Toninato registered his first multi-goal game of the season, and first Jan. 22/23 as part of a 4-3 overtime win against Texas. It was the sixth multi-goal effort of his career. The two markers push Toninato up to 18 goals on the season, one shy of matching his career high set in 2022-23. The Duluth, Minn. product leads the Moose in goals and is tied for second on the team with 33 points (18G, 15A).
Winning Wednesdays
Tonight’s game marks the 10th, and final, time the Moose hit the ice on a Wednesday, and it’s been a good day for Manitoba. The team holds a 6-2-0-1 record on Wednesdays this season. The antlered ones have points in five consecutive Wednesday games (4-0-0-1), including a 5-4 win in Laval on Feb. 19. Elias Salomonsson (7 GP) and C.J. Suess (9 GP) both lead the Moose eight points (3G, 5A) on Wednesdays. Ben King (9 GP) and Dominic Toninato (8 GP) both lead the team with four goals on the day. Domenic DiVincetniis and Thomas Milic are both undefeated on Wednesday, posting similar 3-0-0 records.
Pepper the Net
The Moose recorded 37 shots on goal in yesterday’s contest. It was the third time this season Manitoba recorded specifically 37 shots, standing as the team’s second-highest total in a game this season. The Moose hold a 3-3-0-0 record when tallying more than 35 shots on goal, with 43 shots representing the season high. All but two Moose skaters recorded a shot on goal last night, while five players tallied at least four shots on goal. Dominic Toninato wrapped with six shots in the contest to lead the count. Coincidentally, last night’s game was the second time the Moose recorded 37 shots and allowed 22 shots on goal.
Special Teams Leading the Way
Manitoba has been winning the special teams battle in recent games. The Moose power play scored in each of the past three games, while the penalty kill didn’t allow a goal. The power play is 3/9 (33%) over those contests with the penalty kill shutting down seven opposition power plays. Since Jan. 8, the Moose power play is rolling along at a 22.2 percent clip over the 36-game span. Overall, the Moose are operating at 17.2 percent on the power play while maintaining an 81.2 percent rate on the penalty kill.

Danny Zhilkin tallied his fourth assist of the season last night. His seventh point (3G, 4A) of the campaign matches a career high for the Moscow, Russia product. Zhilkin recorded six points (3G, 3A) of those seven in the previous 14 contests. The Winnipeg Jets third round pick in 2022 played his 90th AHL game last night, tallying 14 points (5G, 9A) in his career.
