The Manitoba Moose (23-38-2-3) open up a weekend set against the Chicago Wolves (33-28-4-0) this afternoon. Puck drop at Canada Life Centre is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT. The Moose came up short in a 3-1 loss to Laval on Wednesday for their third consecutive defeat. Chicago snapped a two-game skid on Wednesday with a 4-3 win in Grand Rapids the Wolves are 4-5-1-0 their past 10 games.

Franchise Milestone
C.J. Suess comes into today’s action with 299 games played as a member of the Moose. Suess is set to become the 11th player in franchise (Moose/IceCaps) history to play 300 contests in antlers. The Forest Lake, Min. product will be the seventh player to appear in 300 games exclusively with the Moose. Suess made his AHL debut with the Moose on March 28, 2018 against Rockford. The Winnipeg Jets fifth round pick in 2014 departed for one season, playing 46 games with the San Jose Barracuda. Suess has 123 points (64G, 59A) in his 299 career games with the Moose and 145 points (74G, 71A) overall.
New Career High
Tyson Empey picked up an assist on Manitoba’s lone goal on Wednesday. The helper pushed his season total to 13 points (7G, 6A), setting a new career high. Empey surpassed his 2021-22 total of 12 points (3G, 9A) in seven less games than the previous high. The Swift Current, Sask. product’s seven goals are already a career high, and he is just three penalty minutes shy of matching his previous high of 100 PIMs. Empey has nine points (3G, 6A) over his past 21 games and found the scoresheet in four of his past six outings.

The Manitoba penalty kill has turned away 11 consecutive opposition power plays. The run spans four games without allowing a power play goal. Stretching back over the past eight games, the Moose have allowed just two power play goals on 25 man-disadvantages for a 92.0 percent success rate. Overall, the Moose feature an 81.5 percent rate on the penalty kill.
Oh Hi(o) New Guy!
The Moose announced yesterday the team signed forward Patrick Guzzo to an amateur tryout agreement. Guzzo tallied 16 points (9G, 7A) in 36 games with Ohio State University this season. The Marysville, Mich. product served as the team’s captain for the second consecutive campaign. Guzzo finished his NCAA career with 62 points (34G, 28A) in 171 games, becoming the Buckeye’s all-time games played leader. Guzzo was named Ohio State’s winner of the Big-Ten Sportsmanship Award and earned multiple Academic All-Big Ten Team and Ohio State Scholar Athlete nods across his collegiate career. Prior to his time at Ohio State, Guzzo accumulated 40 points (18G, 22A) in 100 career USHL games with the Waterloo Black Hawks.

Defenceman Dylan Coghlan scored his 11th goal of the season and recorded six shots on goal Wednesday. Coghlan is tied for ninth among AHL defencemen in goal scoring despite playing just 31 games this season. He is the only defender to with at least 10 goals and under 40 games. Coghlan leads Moose defencemen with 25 points (11G, 14A).
