The Moose open a three-game road swing with an early matchup against the Milwaukee Admirals. Puck drop for this morning's tilt is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. CT. Here’s Berdy!

Mikhail Berdin made his return to the Moose crease on Sunday afternoon for the first time since March 11. The netminder got back in the win column and finished with 28 saves on 31 shots. The victory pushed Berdin’s record to 15-9-1 with a 2.48 goals-against average and a .903 save percentage. The Moose netminder also owns three shutouts on the campaign. One of those came on the road against the Admirals on Jan. 12, where Berdin finished with 24 saves to blank the home side. The Ufa, Russia product is chasing the career-high 20 wins he recorded with Manitoba during the 2019-20 season.

Putting Up Numbers

Austin Poganski has been quietly productive for the Moose. The forward has tallied three points (1G, 2A) his past three games and recorded 29 points (9G, 20A) in 45 contests this season. Poganski is in the midst of attempting to set new career high numbers and finds himself one goal and two points shy of his previous career best of 10 goals and 31 points he recorded in 2018-19 as a member of the San Antonio Rampage. The St. Cloud, Minn. product is also closing in on the career milestone of 100 points. The forward has 92 points (29G, 63A) in 164 AHL games. Poganski has also registered a career best 11.7% shooting percentage in his first season in antlers.

Versatile Production

Nicholas Jones put together a two point (1G, 1A) performance in the Moose come from behind win over Toronto on Sunday afternoon. The forward’s ninth goal of the season tied a previous career high that was set in 2019-20 when Jones was a member of the Hartford Wolf Pack. The forward has registered 23 points (9G, 14A) and has five multi-point games under his belt this season. He is also one of only four Moose players to record a power play, shorthanded and game-winning tally this season. Jones has also fired 94 shots on goal this season which shatters his previous high of 75 in 2019-20.

Leading the Blueline

Leon Gawanke is the top producing Moose defenceman this season with 32 points (8G, 24A) in 55 games in his third AHL season. The Berlin, Germany product has assists in two straight games and has notched half of his eight goals on the man advantage this season. Gawanke has had a multitude of success when facing the Admirals this season and leads the Moose with 10 points (4G, 6A) in eight games on the campaign. The defenceman also set a new Manitoba single-game franchise record with 11 shots on goal, Nov. 10/21 at Milwaukee in a 4-3 Moose overtime win. Gawanke had three points that night including the overtime winning tally.

Johnathan Kovacevic scored his 11th goal of the season in Sunday’s win over the Toronto Marlies. The defenceman has recorded goals in consecutive games and has 27 points (11G, 16A) in 53 games this season. Kovacevic’s 11 goals tie him for third among AHL blueliners. The Grimsby, Ont. product was a third round pick of the Winnipeg Jets in 2017.
