Fast Facts: Moose vs. Milwaukee – Dec. 1

The Manitoba Moose kick off a brief two-game home stand hosting the the division leading Milwaukee Admirals. Manitoba posted a 2-2-1-0 mark on the club's recent road swing, wrapping things up with a 4-1 win in Grand Rapids on Saturday. Brew That Coffee!

Manitoba hosts its first-ever School Day Game at 11 a.m. this morning against Milwaukee. The Moose played two morning games during the 2021-22 season, with the first coming in Chicago against the Wolves on Dec. 16/21. Jeff Malott scored for Manitoba and the Moose opened a 3-2 lead heading into the third. The Wolves tied the contest midway through the frame before Josh Leivo won the game with two seconds left. Manitoba’s final morning game came against Milwaukee on April 6/22. The Moose took the contest 3-2 with Malott registering the game-winning goal and Nicholas Jones recording a pair of assists.

Back in Antlers

The Winnipeg Jets assigned defenceman Ville Heinola back to the Moose on Sunday. The defenceman has seven assists in 11 games with the Moose this season. The Honkajoki, Finland product sits third on the team in scoring among defencemen and paces the club with a plus-12 rating. Heinola has 45 points (9G, 36A) in 74 career AHL contests, all with the Moose. The defender has also appeared in 27 NHL games with Winnipeg, including two this season, and has tallied 10 points (1G, 9A) over his career.

Give it up for Greg

Greg Meireles opened the scoring for the Moose in the Saturday evening win in Grand Rapids. The former sixth round pick of the Florida Panthers in 2019 now has two goals over his past four contests. Both tallies opened the scoring for the Moose and helped push Manitoba to a pair of wins. The marker on Nov. 19/22 that was potted 18 seconds into the contest was the fastest Moose goal scored to date this season. Meireles, who was re-signed by Manitoba to a one-year contract this summer, led all Moose rookies in scoring last season with 27 points (5G, 22A) in 49 games and was named the team’s Rookie of the Year.

Jeff Malott notched his second multi-point game of the season in Manitoba’s 4-1 win over Grand Rapids on Saturday. The forward is now up to 10 points (7G, 3A) through 15 games and sits third on the team in scoring. Malott is second on the team with two power play markers and 34 shots. During the 2021-22 campaign, it took the Burlington, Ont. product until Dec. 16/21 to score his seventh goal of the season. Heading into the Moose game on Dec. 1/22 against Milwaukee, Malott is already up to seven goals. Over the last three Moose seasons, no Moose player has scored more goals than Malott’s 44.

Declan Chisholm recorded two points (1G, A) in Manitoba’s 4-1 win over Grand Rapids on Saturday. He’s up to nine points (3G, 6A) through 15 games and leads the Moose with a trio of power play markers. A fifth round pick of the Winnipeg Jets in 2018, Chisholm sits tied for fourth on the squad in points and has a 13.0% shooting percentage this season.
