Roster Moves

The Winnipeg Jets reassigned defenceman Ville Heinola to the Moose on Sunday. Heinola is second among Moose defenders with 14 points (2G, 12A) this season. The Moose recalled forwards Isaac Johnson and Bobby Lynch from the Newfoundland Growlers of the ECHL on Tuesday. Lynch has two assists in six games for the Moose this season. The Grand Blanc, Mich. also has seven points (2G, 5A) in nine games for Newfoundland. Johnson has nine points (6G, 3A) in 18 games with the Growlers this season.

Stingy Stats

Through their first 23 games of the season, the Moose have allowed just 2.39 goals per game ranking among the top-five defensive teams. The club has allowed a league-low 23.6 shots per game, roughly two shots per game fewer than the second-ranked Wolves. That defensive posture is reflected in the team’s penalty kill which ranks in the top-three of the AHL at 88.8 percent. The Moose have surrendered just nine power play goals in 23 games this season, a league-low 0.39 power play goals against per game.

Maier Fire

Forward Cole Maier is climbing into the upper echelon of Moose point-getters. The forward has recorded 14 points (7G, 7A) in 23 games this season for Manitoba. He’s tied for the team goal-scoring lead with David Gustafsson and is one of only two Moose this season to have a shorthanded goal to his credit. Maier has been on fire the past two games with four points (1G, 3A) as the Moose swept the Grand Rapids Griffins this past weekend. Maier’s play has also seen him place second on the team with a plus-minus differential of plus-eight. The forward’s career high in points came in 2019-20 with the Moose when he recorded 15 points (7G, 8A) in 59 games.

Eyss Up The Sleeve

Mikey Eyssimont started the year off on a tear and recorded four goals in his first five games of the season for the Moose. The forward dealt with an injury and COVID-19 protocol in November, and since his return, picked up eight where he left off. The Littleton, Col. product has five points (1G, 4A) in his last five games. In that span, the Moose went 4-1-0-0 against the Belleville Senators, Laval Rocket and Grand Rapids Griffins. Eyssimont now has 12 points (6G, 6A) in 16 games this season. The forwards previous career high came in 2019-20 where he recorded 28 points (12G, 16A) in 56 games with the Ontario Reign.
