Roster Moves

As with many teams in the AHL these days, the Moose find their roster in a state of flux. The Winnipeg Jets announced yesterday the team recalled forward David Gustafsson from the club. Gustafsson is tied for the team lead with 16 points (7G, 9A) in 23 games this season. The Moose have also recalled forward Ty Pelton-Byce from the Newfoundland Growlers. Pelton-Byce has nine points (3G, 6A) in 17 games with Newfoundland this season. The University of Wisconsin alum made his professional debut with the Moose in 2020-21, posting two points (1G, 1A) in 11 games.

Debut

Forward Isaac Johnson made his AHL debut with the Moose yesterday morning. Johnson recorded one shot on goal and an even plus/minus rating in his first AHL game. The Andover, Minn. product is on recall from Newfoundland where he has nine points (6G, 3A) in 18 games with the Growlers. Johnson got his first professional action in last season playing 17 games in the SPHL split between Huntsville and Knoxville, tallying 20 points (7G, 13A)

Burgess Breaks Out

Forward Todd Burgess had his most productive game in the AHL yesterday. Burgess tallied the first assist of his AHL career in the first period, and scored his second goal in the middle frame. The two points marked the first multi-point game of Burgess’ AHL career. The Phoenix, Ariz. native has three points (2G, 1A) in 10 games with the Moose this season. All three of his points have come in the past five games.

Squad Goals

Jeff Malott scored his seventh goal of the season in yesterday’s loss, moving him into a tie with David Gustafsson and Cole Maier for the team lead. Malott has all his goals in the past 15 games. The Burlington, Ont. product led the Moose with 14 tallies in 34 games last season. Also getting on the board was defenceman Johnathan Kovacevic who tallied his fifth of the campaign. That brings Kovacevic into a tie with Declan Chisholm for the team-lead. The goal also marked a new career high for Kovacevic who previously recorded four goals in 45 games during the 2018-19 season.

Who's Trending?

Forward C.J. Suess had a pair of assists in the 4-3 loss to Chicago on Thursday. The forward is up to 11 points (3G, 8A) in 22 games this season with the Moose. Suess is in the midst of his fifth season with the club and set a career high in points with 27 (14G, 13A) in 57 games during the 2019-20 season. He was a fifth round pick of the Winnipeg Jets in 2014.
