Preview: Follow Your Dreams Day

The Manitoba Moose (24-21-3-2) are set to take on the Milwaukee Admirals (22-20-9-1) this afternoon (2 p.m. CT) at Bell MTS Place. Today’s game is the club’s Follow Your Dreams Day, where they’ll celebrate Indigenous youth in sports and culture. For tickets, visit moosehockey.com/tickets/.

The Moose are coming off a sweep of the Chicago Wolves on a night where Seth Griffith scored the game winner, Cam Maclise notched his first goal of the season, and Eric Comrie stopped 38 of the 40 shots he faced.

After a stellar Moose performance in the first game of the series against Chicago, Manitoba was expecting the Wolves to come out firing. Comrie said they were prepared for the push that saw Chicago outshoot the Moose 13-4 in the first.

“We knew that going in. We knew we had to weather the storm, and I think we did a good job of that. We moved on from there and got better and better as the game went on. The third period was, by far, our best period.”

A Moose win in today’s contest would tie two club records, as it would be their ninth win in a row at home, as well as Manitoba’s 13th straight game with at least a point in downtown Winnipeg.

Forward Logan Shaw, who leads the team with 20 goals, has been a thorn in Milwaukee’s side. The veteran has seven points (5G, 2A) in five games against the Admirals this season. Shaw is looking forward to welcoming them back to Bell MTS Place.

“We want this to be a hard rink for opponents to play in and right now, it is. We’ve played, the last four game especially, two good teams. That’s a huge part for us, knowing that teams don’t want to come in here.”

The two games against Milwaukee wrap up a stretch of 16 games against the Central Division. The Moose are 9-3-1-1 over that span and have swept four straight two-game series at Bell MTS Place against their rival teams. As the only division in the AHL to have an average goals allowed under three, the Central is notorious for its grinding style.

Manitoba is 13-5-0-0 at home against the Central Division in 2018-19.  Shaw feels this stretch of contests against their division can be both a challenge and an advantage.

“Every time we play a central division team, it’s better for us as long as we keep doing what we’re doing. It’s helping us advance up. Right now, we’re just trying to continue the stretch that we’re going on. Keep building on this, and make sure we finish the next two games before we go on the road.”

Manitoba finishes both its homestand and their season series against Milwaukee tomorrow on Super Hero Day. Someone in attendance will win a trip for four to Universal Studios in Orlando. Tickets are still available at moosehockey.com/tickets/. If you can’t make it to the games, both will be broadcast on TSN 1290, moosehockey.com/listenlive/, the Moose App, and streaming live on AHLTV.
