By: Manitoba Moose Staff | Published: February 19th 2023

The Manitoba Moose can post their first five-game winning streak of the season tonight as they host the Grand Rapids Griffins. The Moose picked up a win their previous outing, earning a 2-1 victory against the Iowa Wild. The Moose posted an impressive 38-15 edge in shots on the way to the win. Manitoba and Grand Rapids previously faced off on Feb. 10 and 11, with the Moose claiming both games by a 9-2 combined score.

The first 3,000 fans in attendance at tonight's game will receive a Dylan Samberg mini bobblehead. Puck drop is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tickets are available at MooseHockey.com/TICKETS.

Toni Finds Twine

Dominic Toninato recorded two points (1G, 1A) in Friday night’s contest against Iowa. The forward’s 11th of the season tied the contest for the Moose before his assist in the third set up the eventual game-winning  tally. The two points represent the fifth time this season the forward has tallied a multi-point game and the second time in his AHL career that he’s hit the double-digit goal plateau. Toninato’s two points also make him the eighth Moose forward this season to reach 20 or more points. Toninato has 11 goals through 30 games with Manitoba and is within striking distance of his career-high of 14 set in 2018-19 through 57 games.

Offence from Defence

Dean Stewart recorded an assist in Manitoba’s Friday night game. The defenceman, a former Arizona seventh round draft pick in 2016, is currently riding a three-game point streak and has contributed four points (4A) over that span. That mark is one shy of his longest streak of four, which dates back to the 2021-22 campaign. Stewart has registered 14 points (1G, 13A) through 40 games this season, while also sporting a plus-four rating. The defender also sits first among Moose rookies in points and assists. Stewart ranks 19th in points and 10th in assists among the AHL’s rookie defencemen.

Shooters Shoot

Jansen Harkins tallied a goal on Friday night against Iowa. The forward is in the midst of a six-game point streak while tallying nine points (5G, 4A). The Winnipeg Jets 2015 second round pick now has five game-winning goals, which paces the Moose this season and represents a new-career high for the forward. Over the month of February, Harkins co-leads the Moose with five goals, two of which have been game-winners, sits tied for second in assists, leads the antlered ones with nine points and paces the club with a plus-nine rating. The forward has put up 22 points (12G, 10A) in 19 games this season with Manitoba.

Home Side Number Crunch

Manitoba enters today’s contest in the first game of a home back-to-back situation. The Moose sit 9-5-1-1 in that scenario this season. When Manitoba scores a shorthanded goal, of which the team has six total, at home this season, the Moose are 2-0-0-0. When Manitoba doesn’t allow a power play goal at home, the squad stands with a record of 8-2-1-1. On home  ice, the penalty kill clicks at 84.0% and sits fifth in the league this season. Five Moose skaters have tallied double-digit points at home and are led by Alex Limoges who has 17 points
(4G, 13A) at Canada Life Centre.

Who's Trending?

Jeff Malott tallied a primary assist on Friday night. The assist was Malott’s 10th of the season, which represents the second time in his AHL career the forward has hit double-digits. The Waterdown, Ont. product sits third in team scoring with 26 points (16G, 10A) and leads the squad in goals and power play tallies.
