Jan. 12, 2019 vs LAVAL ROCKET

The Manitoba Moose (15-18-2-0) chase their sixth straight win over the Laval Rocket (15-17-3-3) tonight at 6 p.m. CT. This evening’s game will be available on moosehockey.com/listenlive/, the Moose App, and streaming for free on AHLTV.

Tonight is Military Appreciation Night at Bell MTS Place. The club will wear specialty jerseys to honour the Canadian Armed Forces. Those jerseys will be auctioned off during the game and online to support the Hubbell Awards. Fans can also look forward to a special pre-game presentation, a military-themed game experience, and a fan clapper for the first 2,000 in the building. Tickets are still available at moosehockey.com/tickets.

Just two nights ago, the Moose scored a 4-0 victory over the Rocket on Eric Comrie’s second shutout of the season. The netminder stopped 35 Laval shots, securing Manitoba’s fourth victory in six games since the holiday break.

Comrie currently sits top-five in the AHL with a 0.921 save percentage, which is higher than his previous career best of 0.916 in 2017-18. Head Coach Pascal Vincent spoke to how his goaltender helped the team control play after the first meeting with the Rocket.

“I’ll give him some taps on the back here, because he was pretty good. When you evaluate your goalies, and the way we do it is: making the first save when he has too, making the big saves at the right times, and rebound control. I thought, tonight, that’s one part of the game where we were pretty good, it’s controlling those second chances and Eric was taking care of the first chances. It was a pretty good combination.”

Michael Spacek had an assist on Cameron Schilling’s first goal of the season, which turned out to be the game winner. The second-year forward has a helper in each of the team’s last three games. With 12 points over the last 13 appearances, Spacek (3G, 19A) is now tied at the top of the team’s leaderboard with Logan Shaw (13G, 9A). The Jets fourth round pick (108th overall in 2015) has a point in all five games against the Rocket since they arrived in Laval in 2017-18 (2G, 3A).

Since Marko Dano joined the Moose at the end of November, Spacek’s game has seemingly taken off. Dano spoke about his relationship with the young center.

“He’s a smart player. He’s got a great skill set. I’m trying to help him out as much as possible to talk to him on the ice, off the ice, to make sure that we’re on the right page. He’s a young age but he’s doing really well right now. I’m happy that I’m on a line with him and that we’re having some success.”

As a whole, the Moose have outscored their opposition 12-1 over a three-game home winning streak which they’ll try to carry through the rest of this six game home stand. That set continues with Manitoba’s first Monday game of the season (Jan. 14) when they take on the Milwaukee Admirals. The team has four games at Bell MTS Place coming up in the next week, so don’t forget to check out moosehockey.com/tickets/ to secure your seat.
