The Manitoba Moose (22-34-2-3) kick off a three-game road trip tonight against the Milwaukee Admirals (32-20-5-6). Puck drop at UWM Panther Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
The Moose dropped their second in a row by virtue of a 5-4 overtime loss to Abbotsford on Saturday. The Moose are 4-4-1-1 over their past 10 games. Milwaukee is coming off an overtime loss as well, dropping a 2-1 decision in Hartford on Saturday.
Powered Up
Manitoba struck for two power play goals on five chances in Saturday’s defeat. It marked the fifth time this season the Moose have scored multiple power play goals. It was also the first time the team failed to secure a win when scoring twice on the man-advantage. The Manitoba power play has goals in 13 of the past 21 games while scoring on 17 of 71 opportunities. That’s good for a 23.9 percent success rate. For comparison, the San Jose Barracuda own the AHL’s best power play while scoring on 24.9 percent of their opportunities. Through seven games of the season series, both the Moose and Admirals have scored on 21.7 percent of their power plays.
Free Hockey
The Moose picked up a point with their overtime loss on Saturday. It was the seventh time the past 14 outings the Moose needed extra time to solve their game. Prior to Feb. 23, Manitoba had only passed regulation five times, winning three times. Over their much more consistent string of overtime games, the Moose have won four times in seven tries. Saturday’s loss snapped a streak of five consecutive wins when the game was decided in overtime. The Moose and Admirals have played two extra time games with Manitoba winning 5-4 in a shootout and 4-3 in overtime in Milwaukee.
Double-Digits
Tyson Empey picked up his fourth assist of the season on Saturday. The helper pushed Empey to 10 points (6G, 4A) on the campaign, marking the second time he reached the mark in his AHL career. The forward sits just two points off his career high of 12 points (3G, 9A) set during the 2021-22 campaign with Tucson. Empey is one of 14 players in the league with at least 10 points and 95 penalty minutes this season. The Swift Current, Sask. product is also one of four Moose with 97 penalty minutes on the season. Should Empey reach the century mark for penalty minutes, it will be the second time in his career the winger clears 10 points and 100 penalty minutes.
New Addition
The Moose announced today the team signed forward Liam Malmquist to an amateur tryout agreement. Malmquist was named to the 2024-25 All-CCHA First Team while setting a new single-season scoring record for the University of St. Thomas with 45 points (20G, 25A) in 38 games. The breakout campaign saw the senior lead the CCHA in goals and points, while finishing second in assists. Malmquist also led NCAA hockey with four shorthanded goals. The Edina, Minn. product led St. Thomas to the Mason Cup Final, falling 4-2 to Minnesota St. Mankato on Friday. Malmquist totalled 88 points (35G, 53A) in 142 career NCAA games split between St. Thomas and Wisconsin.

C.J. Suess added an assist on Saturday, reaching 20 points (9G, 11A) on the season. He reached the mark in 60 games compared to 68 games in 2023-24. It’s the fifth time Suess reached the plateau in his career, hitting 20 points any season he played at least 40 games. The Forest Lake, Minn. product has four points (1G, 3A) over his past six games.
