The Manitoba Moose (22-35-2-3) open a back-to-back set against the Rockford IceHogs (27-27-6-2) tonight. Puck drop at BMO Center is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT. The Moose lost their third straight contest by a 4-1 count in Milwaukee on Tuesday. Rockford comes in with points in four consecutive games following a 5-4 shootout loss to Chicago on Tuesday. Forward Kevin Conley set up the lone Moose goal on Tuesday for his first point since returning to the lineup on March 21. Conley missed 27 games due to injury. The assist gives the Wasau, Wis. native three points (1G, 2A) over his past eight games played. Conley has five points (3G, 2A) in 25 games this season. The University of Nebraska-Omaha alum cleared 100 penalty minutes in his career with a minor penalty in Tuesday’s contest.
Tight Games
Through six meetings this season, the Moose and IceHogs have decided all but one of their games with a differential of two or less goals. Three of the six games were split by just one goal and two contests held a two-goal spread. Two of Manitoba’s wins came in extra time, an overtime and shootout victory. Rockford has the only win decided by more than two goals, a 5-1 win on Dec. 22 in Winnipeg. The Moose are 15-8-2-3 in one-goal games and hold a 5-8-0-0 mark in two-goal contests. Rockford features an 8-7-6-2 mark in single-goal decisions, along with a 5-6-0-0 line in two-goal outings.
Liwi Liwi
Mark Liwiski added his fourth assist of the season on Tuesday. Liwiski has three points (1G, 2A) over his past eight games, accounting for 43 percent of his production over 39 games. The winger is tied for fourth among AHLer’s with 133 penalty minutes on the season. Liwiski ranks second in the league in penalty minutes per game (min. 15 GP). He also sits second among all AHL rookies. The Dauphin, Man. product has five games this season recording 10 or more penalty minutes.
Near the End of the Road
This weekend’s games will bring the Moose down to just two road games remaining on their regular season calendar. Manitoba has been a solid road team this season, posting a 14-16-1-1 mark away from Canada Life Centre. Those 14 road victories are tied for 16th in the league. Mason Shaw (8G, 10A) and Dominic Toninato (11G, 7A) lead the team with 18 points each on the road this season. Toninato’s 11 goals lead the club in unfriendly territory, and cover 73 percent of his tallies on the season. Domenic DiVincentiis paces Moose goaltenders with six road wins on the campaign.
