Fast Facts: Moose at Belleville – Nov. 17

By: Manitoba Moose Staff | Published: November 17th 2023

The Manitoba Moose open a six-game road swing this evening against the Belleville Senators. The Moose seek to break out of a four-game losing skid tonight in their first meeting of the season against Belleville. Tonight's contest kicks off a run of three games in three days for the Moose, their only three-in-three of the season. Coverage of this evening's game begins at 5:45 p.m. CT on CJOB.com/sports, the Winnipeg Jets App and AHLTV.

Roster Moves

Manitoba assigned defenceman Dawson Barteaux to the ECHL’s Idaho Steelheads. Barteaux has four points (2G, 2A) in three games with the Steelheads this season. The Foxwarren, Man. product recorded five points (2G, 3A) in 57 career AHL contests with the Texas Stars. The Winnipeg Jets also recalled forward Axel Jonsson-Fjallby from the Moose on emergency conditions. Jonsson-Fjallby, 25, has posted five points (3G, 2A) through 10 games with the Moose this season. The Stockholm, Sweden product has registered 84 career AHL points (46G, 38A) in 166 games split between Hershey and Manitoba. Jonsson-Fjallby also has 73 games of NHL experience between Washington and Winnipeg and has recorded 18 points (8G, 10A) over that span.

Within Reach

Ashton Sautner scored a third period goal in Monday’s contest against the Rocket. The goal, which Sautner scored in his 10th game of the campaign, brings the defender up to three on the season. That total surpasses his goal-scoring output from the 2022-23 season in 58 less contests. The defenceman is now one shy of equalling his career-high of four tallies set in the 2015-16 season with the Utica Comets. Sautner has four points (3G, 1A) through 10 games this season and 78 career AHL points (19G, 59A) in 361 total contests.

Steady Production

Wyatt Bongiovanni notched a power play goal in Manitoba’s most recent contest. With the tally, the forward is now in a three-way tie for Moose power play goals despite firing the least amount of shots out of the three leading skaters. Bongiovanni, who inked a two-year entry-level contract with Winnipeg in 2022, has put together six points (2G, 4A) in eight games this season and is one assist away from matching his previous career-high of five that he set in 2021-22. The Birmingham, Mich. product also finds himself in a four-way split with a plus-two rating for tops on the Moose.

Battle Against Belleville

Manitoba has played Belleville well over the last handful of seasons. Manitoba has racked up a 6-3-2-1 record at CAA Arena over the past five campaigns. The Moose own a mark of 13-5-2-2, with the Senators falling to 9-10-3-0 over that same span. Since the 2021-22 season, forward Jeff Malott leads Manitoba against Belleville with eight points (7G, 1A) in eight contests. Dating back to the past season, netminder Oskari Salminen was 2-0-0 with a 1.97 goals-against average and a .889 save percentage in his appearances against Belleville.

Who's Trending?

Danny Zhilkin posted a secondary assist against Laval on Monday. The forward, a Winnipeg Jets 2022 third round selection, has registered four points (1G, 3A) through the first nine games of his professional career. Zhilkin ranks fourth among Moose rookies in scoring and is the only Manitoba first-year skater to tally a shorthanded point.
