The Manitoba Moose take on the Grand Rapids for the first time since Jan. 15, 2022 as the clubs match up for a pair of games this weekend. Goal Scorer

Jeff Malott scored the lone Manitoba goal of Tuesday’s loss in Milwaukee. The tally gives Malott four goals in his past five games. That run launched the Burlington, Ont. product to the top of the Moose goal-scoring leaderboard. It’s a familiar place for Malott, who led the Moose in goals each of the past two seasons. The winger tallied 23 times in 63 games during the 2021-22 campaign and notched 14 goals in 34 games during the 2021-22 season. Malott is just the fourth player in franchise history to lead the team in goals in consecutive seasons. No player has ever paced the club in three straight campaigns. The third-year pro has 43 goals to his name in 109 career AHL contests.

Top of the List

Alex Limoges notched the primary assist on Malott’s power play goal on Tuesday. The helper pushed Limoges’ point streak to six consecutive games. That ties Limoges with Jansen Harkins for the longest point streak recorded by a Moose player this season. The run is tied for the 15th-longest run in the league to this point of the campaign. The Winchester, Vir. native has seven points (4G, 3A) during his streak. The consistent production has Limoges out in front for the Moose scoring race at 12 points (4G, 8A) in 11 games. That puts the third-year pro on pace to surpass his career high of 40 points (23G, 17A) in 63 games during the 2021-22 campaign.

Good Starts = Good Results

The Moose suffered their first regulation loss of the campaign on Tuesday when scoring the first goal of the contest. Manitoba comes into tonight’s matchup in Grand Rapids with a 5-1-2-0 mark when opening the scoring. Manitoba has scored the first goal of the game in three consecutive contests. That includes two games in which the Moose scored on the first shot of the game. All is not lost when the Moose don’t first, the team holds a 3-3-0-0 record when giving up the game’s first tally.

Portable Power

The Moose scored their seventh road power play goal on Tuesday in Milwaukee. Manitoba has power play goals in four of six road games this season and two goals on the man-advantage in three of those contests. The Moose hold a 29.2 percent success rate on the power play in enemy territory. That mark ranks fourth in the AHL and leads the Central Division. That power play success has helped the Moose to a 4-1-1-0 record on the road this season, good for a .750 points percentage which ranks fourth in the league.
