The Manitoba Moose come to the end of their six-game road swing that saw the team make stops in four cities in three provinces and states. The finale is a rematch against the Grand Rapids Griffins today at 4 p.m. CT. The Moose dropped a 5-1 decision to the Griffins on Friday. Jeff Malott scored the lone Moose goal in the contest. Wheels Up

Declan Chisholm’s conditioning stint with the Moose came to an end yessterday.  The defenceman, a 2018 fifth round pick of the Winnipeg Jets, appeared in six games and recorded five assists in that span. The defenceman tallied 43 points (5G, 38A) in 59 games with the Moose during the 2022-23 campaign and for his efforts, was named the team’s Most Valuable Player for the regular season. The Bowmanville, Ont. product has 91 points (16G, 75A) in 146 AHL games.  The defender has appeared in two games with the Winnipeg Jets, both coming during the 2021-22 season.

Road Trip Recap

Today’s contest marks the final game of Manitoba’s six-game road swing. The trip began on Nov. 17/23 in Belleville, where the Moose recorded a 3-2 win. C.J. Suess notched the game-winning tally in the contest. The club then traveled to Toronto for a pair of games and split the series against the Marlies. Sunday’s victory in Toronto saw Suess notched his third game-winning tally of the campaign and bring him one shy of matching his previous career-high. The most recent pair of games saw the Moose fall against Central Division foes in Rockford and Grand Rapids. Manitoba is 2-3-0-0 on the trip with a chance to break even against the Griffins tonight.

The Kids Are Alright

Two of the top three scorers on the Moose this season are currently in their rookie AHL seasons. Nikita Chibrikov paces the squad with 16 points (7G, 9A) in 15 games, while Brad Lambert has recorded 13 points (6G, 7A) in 15 contests. Both players rank in the top-10 of AHL rookie scoring, with Chibrikov placing third and Lambert slotting in ninth. Manitoba has five active rookies on the roster including Chibrikov, Lambert, Parker Ford (2G, 4A), Chaz Lucius (1G, 5A) and Danny Zhilkin (1G, 4A). The five first-year skaters have tallied 17 combined goals, which currently accounts for 38.6% of Manitoba’s grand total of 44 goals on the 2023-24 campaign.

I’ll Dance on a Sunday

Entering this afternoon’s contest, the Moose have played in four Sunday games in 2023-24. Manitoba holds a mark of 2-2-0-0 in those contests. Two players pace the squad in points on Sunday, with Jeff Malott and Nikita Chibrikov leading the charge. Malott has notched four points (2G, 2A) in four contests, while Chibrikov has matched the total with four of his own points (1G, 3A) through four games. Between the pipes, Collin Delia holds a 2-0-0 record on Sunday and has posted a 1.93 goals-against average along with a .923 save percentage.

Malott’s goal on Friday was the first shorthanded marker of his career. The forward is up to 11 points (5G, 6A) in 14 games and paces the Moose with a plus-five rating.
