The Manitoba Moose put their three-game winning streak on the line when they face the Rockford IceHogs today at 4 p.m. CT. The contest is the finale of a gruelling three-in-three weekend on the road. Manitoba claimed wins in the first two outings, both coming to the tune of 5-2 wins in Chicago and Milwaukee. The IceHogs fell 5-2 to Chicago in their home opener last night. Coverage of this afternoon's game gets going at 3:45 p.m. CT on CJOB.com/sports, the new Winnipeg Jets App and AHLTV.com.

One Busy Weekend!

The Moose end their three-game road swing with an afternoon contest against the IceHogs in Rockford. This current stretch is the only time during the 2022-23 season the Moose play three games in three days. The trip started well for Manitoba, who scored a 5-2 win in Chicago on Friday. Jansen Harkins recorded his second game-winner this season. The Moose followed that up with a 5-2 victory in Milwaukee on Saturday evening. Manitoba engaged in a three-in-three once in 2021-22. The Moose  dropped a 2-1 overtime decision against Milwaukee on Nov. 5/21, defeated Chicago 5-1 on Nov. 6/21 and ended the trip with a 4-3 loss against Rockford on Nov. 7/21.

First Impressions Are Important

The 2022-23 edition of the Moose are doing a good job of introducing themselves with points in four straight games to start the season. Manitoba cruises into this afternoon’s tilt with three straight wins preceded by an overtime loss. It’s the best four-game start the team has enjoyed since returning to Winnipeg for the 2015-16 campaign. In fact, it’s the first time in franchise history (IHL/AHL/St. John’s) the team has recorded a point in its first four games of the season while amassing seven of eight possible points. The Moose are tied for third in the AHL with 18 goals on the season. That count is the highest in the franchise’s opening four games since the 2004-05 Moose racked up 22 goals in the first four games while posting a 3-1-0-0 record.

On the Board

Forward Jeff Malott cashed his first goal of the season in last night’s win. The forward led Manitoba with 23 goals last season. The third period power play goal stood up as the game-winner, the 10th winning tally of his career. Malott scored eight game-winning goals last season, tied for second-most in franchise history. The Burlington, Ont. product also led the Moose with 10 power play goals during the 2021-22 season. That mark was tied for 17th in the AHL. Malott played his 99th career AHL game last night. The Cornell alum has 62 points (38G, 24A) to his name in three seasons.

Picking Right Back Up

Defenceman Declan Chisholm scored his first goal of the campaign in yesterday evening’s 5-2 victory in Milwaukee. Chisholm is now up to four points (1G, 3A) in four games to start off the 2022-23 season. The Bowmanville, Ont. native sits second on the squad in assists and is in a three-way tie for the lead in points. The defenceman is coming off an impressive playoff performance in 2022 during which he registered seven points (2G, 5A) in five games to go along with a plus-six rating in his first taste of AHL post-season action.

Who's Trending?

Forward Kevin Stenlund has points in each of his first three games with the Moose. The forward has three points (1G, 2A) on the season while recording five shots on goal. The Columbus Blue Jackets second round pick in 2015 has 144 career AHL games to his name, tallying 73 points (30G, 43A) along the way.
