Game Story

The Manitoba Moose (1-2-0-0) lost a 3-2 decision against the Toronto Marlies (2-0-0-0) on Friday night at Bell MTS Place.

With the matchup being Manitoba's home opener, the Moose were focused on playing a strong game for the Winnipeg crowd and they did not disappoint.

The Moose started the game with speed and intensity against the opposition. The game remained scoreless as both teams battled for offensive opportunities however it was the Marlies who were the first team on the board. A goal from Egor Korshkov assisted by Tyler Gaudet and Matt Read put the Marlies ahead 1-0, but their lead did not last for long. The Moose answered back six minutes later as Andrei Chibisov scored his first AHL goal with an assist by Jimmy Oligny. Pierre Engvall found the net with assists from Pontus Aberg and Ben Harpur near the end of the first frame which left the score 2-1.

Intensity rose in the second frame and the penalty minutes for both teams started to add up. Both clubs saw opportunities on the power play, however the Moose were able to turn the table on the Marlies power play. The Moose received a slashing penalty 1:12 into the second period and with consistent defensive pressure Logan Shaw created space for a breakaway and scored a shorthanded goal to tie the game 2-2 heading into the third period.

Tyler Gaudet scored early in third frame assisted by Jordan Schmaltz and Jeremy Bracco giving the Marlies the go-ahead goal. Despite the effort given by the Moose into the dying seconds of the game, the Moose fell to the Marlies 3-2.
