Game Story
The Manitoba Moose (7-2-0-0) picked up their second victory in as many nights over the Iowa Wild (3-5-1-1) at Casey’s Center on Saturday night. They were coming off a 4-3 win over the Wild on Friday night.
The opening stanza was penalty-filled for the second night in a row. Each side had three power plays, with Iowa’s third opportunity leaking over into the second period. Brayden Yager opened the scoring with Manitoba’s fourth power play marker in the past two outings, tapping home a rebound at 4:28. Iowa led 14-8 on the shot clock through one, with Domenic DiVincentiis blanking the Wild offence into the intermission.
The parade to the penalty box continued in the second, to the tune of seven infractions. Two Wild power plays and three for the Moose resulted in no goals on the scoreboard. DiVincentiis and Riley Mercer stood tall, making eight and 14 saves, respectively.
The Moose padded their lead just under seven minutes into the third. Yager lofted a pass to Lucas Wahlin, who broke in on goal and beat Mercer over the shoulder to make it 2-0 Moose. Both teams managed more discipline in the third, but the Wild still had a chance with a five-on-three man advantage midway through the frame. DiVincentiis and the Moose killed off their sixth and seventh penalties of the evening, holding the 2-0 scoreline intact. Iowa pulled the goaltender in favour of the extra attacker with over three minutes to play, but DiVincentiis and the Moose held firm again. Manitoba locked down its seventh win of the season, and second in a row, by a 2-0 score.

“Obviously nice to get the two points… just kind of sloppy, obviously a lot of penalties and tough to stay in it for some guys that aren’t usually on the special teams, but nice to stick with it and get the two points.”
