The Lake Erie Monsters have had the number of the Manitoba Moose so far this season. That continued on Monday night at the MTS Centre.

After playing a tight period that saw Matt Halischuk even the game at 1-1 with just 16 seconds remaining in the first, it was the Monsters who chipped away at the Moose with their offence the rest of the way.

Lake Erie would go on to score four unanswered goals over the next period and a bit to pull away from the Moose.

Paul Postma and Jiri Fronk added goals for Manitoba in the third but Lake Erie sealed the game on an empty net goal by Joe Devin in the final minutes to secure a 7-3 Monsters win.

Postma made his Moose debut after being assigned on a conditioning stint earlier in the day from the Winnipeg Jets. He recorded a goal and had a team high five shots in the game.

Moose defenceman Brenden Kichton recorded two assists in the contest. It was his fifth multi-point game this season. He leads the Moose in scoring with three goals and 18 assists for 21 points in 30 games this season.

John Albert also recorded two assists for his first multi-point game this season.

Michael Chaput was once again the story for the Monsters as he had a three point night with a goal and two assists and was named the game’s first star. In five games against Manitoba this season, Chaput has five goals and three assists for eight points.

Eric Comrie made his 13th straight start in the Moose net but was pulled in the third period favour of Jussi Olkinuora after allowing five goals on 26 shots.

The Moose will get another crack at Lake Erie this Wednesday in the second meeting of the two game series at 7 p.m. at the MTS Centre.
