Moose Sign Forward Brett Welychka

Winnipeg, MB - The Manitoba Moose Hockey Club announced today the team has signed forward Brett Welychka to an amateur tryout.

Welychka, 24, suited up for the Carleton University Ravens (USports) this season, posting 31 points (12G, 19A) in 28 games.  In three seasons at Carleton, the London, Ont. native racked up 98 points (36G, 62A) in 72 games.  Welychka was honoured in 2015-16 as the USports Rookie of the Year, while leading the nation with 32 assists in 27 games.  He also captured a bronze medal with Team Canada at the 2017 Winter Universiade in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

Welychka played his major-junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League where he split time between his hometown London Knights and the Belleville Bulls.  The former Belleville captain played 242 games, tallying 148 points (64G, 84A) and captured OHL Championships with London in 2012 and 2013.

The Moose host the Iowa Wild for a pair of games this weekend, with tonight's matchup scheduled for 7 p.m. and Sunday's contest slated for 2 p.m.  Tickets are available at moosehockey.com/tickets.
