Jets select six players at 2016 NHL Draft

The Winnipeg Jets made six total selections over the last two days at the 2016 NHL Draft.

The Jets selected Finnish forward Patrik Laine with the second overall pick in the first round on Friday night. Laine had an incredible season leading up to the draft, leading his team Tappara, to a Finnish SM-liiga Championship, scoring 33 points (17G, 16A) in 46 regular season games to go along with 15 points (10G, 5A) in 18 playoff games. Laine won the Jari Kurri Award for being the best player in the playoffs. He was also named SM-liiga rookie of the year and had the most points of any rookie in the Finish elite league.

The team then took defenceman Logan Stanley 18th overall. Stanley played for the Windsor Spitfires of the OHL during the 2015-16 season. He tallied 17 points (5G, 12A) and 103 penalty minutes in 64 games, and put up one point (1G) in five playoff games. Additionally, Stanley was selected to play in the 2015-16 CHL Top Prospects Game. Stanley has recorded 21 points (5G, 16A) and 163 penalty minutes in 123 OHL games over the last two seasons.

Winnipeg acquired the 18th and 79th overall picks in a trade with the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for the 22nd and 36th overall selections.

In the third round, with the 79th pick, the Jets took defenceman Luke Green. Green's played for the Saint John Sea Dogs of the QMJHL over the last two seasons, tallying 71 total points (16G, 55A) in 121 games.

The Jets selected Jacob Cederholm with the 97th overall pick. Cederholm, a defenceman plays for HV71 of the Swedish Hockey League. During the 2015-16 season, Cederholm played 35 games for HV71's J20 team, recording five points (1G, 4A) and 28 penalty minutes.

With the 127th pick, the Jets selected Brandon, MB native Jordan Stallard. Stallard plays for the WHL's Calgary Hitmen and put up 49 points (21G, 28A) in 68 games during the 2015-16 season.

In the sixth round, Winnipeg picked goaltender Mikhail Berdin 157th overall. Berdin played for Russia's U18 team in the MHL during the 2015-16 season and posted a .928 save percentage in 22 games played.

The Jets traded their final pick in the draft (the 187th selection) to the Montreal Canadiens for the Canadiens' seventh round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft.
