Moose host Cleveland in home opener

By: Manitoba Moose Staff | Published: October 13th 2017

Winnipeg, MB - The Manitoba Moose play their home opener Friday night at 7 p.m. (CST) against the Cleveland Monsters in the teams’ first meeting of the year. On opening weekend the Moose got a split against the reigning champion Grand Rapids Griffins, netting an impressive 7-2 win in the second game.

THE KIDS WERE ALL RIGHT
The Moose drew into the win column in a big way last Saturday, posting seven goals in their win over Grand Rapids. The seven-goal mark was a rare occurrence last season with the Moose reaching seven once (Nov. 3/16 vs. Cleveland) and allowing seven once (Feb. 15 at Grand Rapids). Four players on the Moose registered three point nights: Mike Sgarbossa (2G, 1A), Kyle Connor (2G, 1A), Jack Roslovic (1G, 2A) and Brendan Lemieux (1G, 2A) who set a new single-game career high.

MAKING AN IMPRESSION
The Moose added a significant amount of experience coming into this season, and it didn’t take long for some of those players to hit the scoresheet. Mike Sgarbossa posted four points (2G, 2A) in two games, Cam Schilling had an assist in both games, and Buddy Robinson also tallied points in both contests with a goal and an assist.

WHAT A GIFT
Cameron Schilling wasted no time in checking off a milestone this season. On Saturday October, 7, which was also Schilling’s 29th birthday, the defenseman’s assist against the Griffins meant he reached the 100-point mark for his AHL career. Schilling has 26 goals and 74 assists to his name and it took 357 games to reach the 100-point plateau. Brody Sutter could be the next to hit that mark, currently sitting at 92 points.

FRIENDS IN LOW PLACES
A former Moose returns to Bell MTS Place.  Jordan Schroeder, who has 72 games with the Moose to his credit, makes an appearance wearing a Cleveland jersey. Schroeder has made visits to Winnipeg with the Iowa Wild last season.  Currently on loan from the Blue Jackets for a conditioning stint, Schroeder played 72 games with the Moose from 2009-11 scoring 37 points (14G, 23A).

WHAT’S NEXT?
Friday night’s game is the first of a two-game set against Cleveland, with the second game on Sunday at 2 p.m. CST. With many more exciting home games, including a Halloween showdown with Belleville (Oct. 28) coming up, be sure to visit: moosehockey.com/tickets/ to get your seat.
