Game Story
The Manitoba Moose (21-5-1-2) and Toronto Marlies (21-7-0-0) each played their third game in three nights with top spot in the AHL on the line.  The Marlies opened the scoring 8:18 into the period when Ben Smith fired a wrister past Michael Hutchinson off the rush.  Manitoba struck for a tying marker with 5:30 to go in the frame.  Immediately following a Moose power play, Michael Spacek put a pass down low to Mason Appleton who found Nic Petan in a soft spot in front of the net and Petan one-timed the puck to the twine.  The teams went to the intermission deadlocked 1-1.

Manitoba earned its first lead of the day courtesy of a Kirill Gotovets one-timer.  The defenceman fired his shot from the point with Buddy Robinson parked in front, and the puck found its way to the back of the net 3:43 into the period.  Hutchinson was busy in the period, turning aside 14 shots from the Marlies.  At the other end of the ice, Calvin Pickard kept the Moose from extending their lead late in the period.  When it looked like Patrice Cormier had a wide open net to shoot into, Pickard dove back to rob the Moose captain and keep it a 2-1 game heading to the third period.

The Moose penalty kill came up with a key stop early in the period.  Down two skaters for 48 seconds, the Moose shut down the Marlies power play to maintain their one-goal edge.  The Marlies continued the pressure, but Jack Roslovic put a dagger in their comeback hopes when he stole the puck in the offensive zone and snapped a perfect shot in off the bar at 11:33 of the period.  The Marlies tried to get back into the contest, pulling Pickard from his net with just under four minutes remaining.  The Moose took advantage of the open cage twice, with Patrice Cormier and Buddy Robinson each scoring to push Manitoba to the top of the AHL standings with a 5-1 win.
