Game Story

The Manitoba Moose (14-5-1-1) won their sixth straight game, taking out the Milwaukee Admirals (10-8-0-0) by a 3-0 score on Saturday.  The Moose and Admirals were both unable to crack the scoresheet in the first period despite some chances for both teams on the power play. Manitoba outshot Milwaukee 12-5 in the frame, but the Admirals had the better chances, ringing two shots in a row of the post.

The second period started with a bang when Manitoba’s Mike Sgarbossa found Chase De Leo wide open in the slot.  De Leo made no mistake with his shot and the Moose were up 1-0 just 1:37 into the frame. The story of the second, and the game, was Manitoba’s penalty kill. The Moose took five penalties in the middle frame, but didn’t allow many significant chances and were a perfect 7/7 in the game. The last penalty kill of the second resulted in a goal, courtesy of Manitoba’s scoring leader.  Jack Roslovic intercepted a pass, raced out to a breakaway, and deked out Milwaukee’s goalie Anders Lindback with less than three seconds remaining in the period, sending the Moose to the break, up 2-0.

The final frame saw the Moose in a defensive stance.  Eric Comrie was stellar, twice going post-to-post to rob Milwaukee and keep them scoreless.  The net behind Comrie wasn’t as strong, twice falling off its moorings without much pressure.  The unstable goal lead to a confusing moment when Comrie tried to draw the official’s attention to the loose net, resulting in the Admirals putting the puck into the empty net.  The goal wasn’t allowed and Comrie kept his composure to keep Milwaukee off the board on the way to the shutout victory. Brendan Lemieux scored an empty net goal, with JC Lipon getting his second assist of the night, to wrap up the 3-0 Moose win.

Quick Hits

  • Eric Comrie’s shutout was the first of the season for the Moose, and the fifth of his career.

  • With an assist, Mike Sgarbossa extended his point streak to four games (2 goals,4 assists).
