Game Story
The Manitoba Moose (0-1-0-0) clashed with the Grand Rapids Griffins (1-0-0-0) to get the 2017-18 season under way.  After a couple early Moose chances, it was the host Griffins who opened the scoring.  Working on the powerplay, Ryan Sproul hammered a one-timer past Eric Comrie 8:41 into the contest.  Just under two minutes later, Colin Cambell’s wraparound try ended up on the stick of Dominic Turgeon who slipped the puck to the back of the net.  Grand Rapids tacked on  one more before the end of the period with Campbell redirecting a Turner Elson shot into the Moose net with 2:45 left in the frame.

The second looked to be off to a rough start for the Moose with two early penalties, but Cameron Schilling turned things around.  The veteran defender spied an opening and raced down the ice shorthanded.  He placed a perfect setup across to rookie forward Cam Maclise to get the Moose on the board.  Manitoba continued to threaten with scoring chances from Kyle Connor, JC Lipon, Brody Sutter and Mike Sgarbossa, but Jared Coreau, and the post in one case, turned the Moose away.  With three minutes to go in the period, Turner Elson capitalized on a broken Griffins rush and shoveled the puck into the net to give Grand Rapids a 4-1 lead after two.

The Moose came out hot in the third, putting the first six shots of the frame on Jared Coreau who remained sharp all the way through.  Manitoba did find a way past the Griffins netminder, though, as a scramble play saw a rebound come to Peter Stoykewych who pounded it home to get the Moose within two.  The visitors continued to push, outshooting Grand Rapids 12-3 in the third, but Dylan McIlrath put the game away with a late marker to send the Griffins to a 5-2 victory
