Going for a Run – Stoykewych Takes on Manitoba Marathon

By: Daniel Fink | Published: June 12th 2019

Manitoba Moose captain Peter Stoykewych is no stranger to pushing himself physically, but he is in for a whole new challenge on June 16 when he participates in the 2019 Manitoba Marathon.  The Winnipegger was challenged, along with one of his close friends, by another friend to run in the marathon.  Looking for something to give himself something to strive for in the gym during the early stages of the off-season, Stoykewych decided to accept the challenge of running his first marathon.

Despite some nerves at running the 42.2 kilometre course, the Moose defender feels ready and has enjoyed chasing this new goal.

"I feel pretty good.  It's obviously a daunting run, but I've never gone that far before.  It's hard to watch guys still playing at this time of year so I had to find something to motivate me here and I thought the marathon was a good idea."

Being ready for the marathon doesn't change much for Stoykewych's preparation for the upcoming 2019-20 season with the Moose, but he acknowledges it needing to be in top form at a different point of the summer.

"It's a little different, obviously you have to peak at a different time here, but my goal is to just get through this thing and raise as much money as I can."

Stoykewych is using his participation in the marathon as an opportunity to raise funds for Cancer Care Manitoba, in honour of his friend's mother who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.  You can support his efforts by clicking here.
